Job Description:

Function of Position:

The Specialist II is responsible for promoting student success and persistence by assisting students regarding financial aid on a walk-in and appointment basis, and acting as liaison to an MCC School. This position provides detailed assistance with the application process; verification of information on the FAFSA; packaging and awarding federal, state, and MCC financial aid; debt management, loan counseling, and financial wellness coaching; development and implementation of online forms; assisting in the determination of course eligibility relative to financial aid. The position reports to the Associate Director of Financial Aid.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  • Provide detailed assistance to students related to all processes of financial aid
  • Assist students in the completion of the financial aid requirements, particularly the application process
  • Supports students identified as having been in foster care, orphaned, or having a legal guardian
  • Verification processing function of federal financial aid to include review of income, family size, number in college for applicants, and families of applicants
  • Assist students with financial resources and emergency financial aid grants
  • Provide assistance relative to debt management, loan counseling, and financial wellness for prospective, current, and former students
  • Provide general information to students relative to degree completion and financial aid eligibility
  • Provide financial aid planning and financial wellness tools to students as debt management resources
  • Coordinate with other financial aid staff and MCC Computing staff for issues related to Banner system issues and processing
  • Assist in the development and communication related to online forms used in financial aid
  • Assist students in the completion of the financial aid requirements, particularly the application process
  • Collaborate with other Student Services offices and Academic Departments to provide appropriate resources to students

Secondary Functions:

  • Attend Federal, State, and Banner related training as appropriate to perform functions
  • Represent the Financial Aid Offices at various programs on and off campus
  • Serve on college committees as appropriate
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid
  • Work some evenings and weekends

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned bachelors degree from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
  • Minimum 1 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgement and decision making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively; verbally and in writing in small and large groups

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Financial aid experience
  • Banner student information system experience
  • Able to speak multiple languages including but not limited to Spanish, Chinese, or other languages that account for an ever-increasingly diverse student population.

Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $55,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
