Summary This position supports Mercy#s philosophy of patient centered care by providing direction and coordination for the dialysis facility.# This includes overseeing the#services provided, ensuring compliance, mentoring staff as well as providing patient care on a regular basis. # Job Duties Ensures that accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families, and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome. Coordinates and implements in services, skills labs, or education for the unit, hospital or community. Creates a culture of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental cooperation and communication by motivating staff to continuously improve performance. Manages customer complaints in a timely and caring manner. Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives. Participates in the orientation and theory for new staff or medical/nursing students. Supports department and hospital goals and activities. Promotes and facilitates teamwork within the unit to achieve desired outcomes. Leads or participates in representing the department in projects or improvement teams within the hospital and/or with community partners. Serves as a role model for staff by demonstrating clinical expertise when providing direct patient care. Practices cost containment efforts on a shift to shift basis by efficient use of time and resources. Champions and applies evidenced based practice related to policies, procedures and education materials. Acts as the physician liaison for Dialysis. Demonstrates clinical competency in Dialysis. Identifies, implements and monitors Quality Improvement projects in concert with Director or other management team members. Coordinates and assists development/revision of policy and procedures and patient education materials related to hemodialysis accesses, infection control, etc. Collects data and compiles reports as delegated by the Executive Director. Assists the Executive Director by managing the clinical services provided and assists with delegated management responsibilities of the staff, including input into hiring and evaluating staff performance. Accountable for ensuring compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards as they apply to dialysis.# Follows Mercy#s safety guidelines, carries out job- specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Expertise in dialysis practice. Ability to use problem solving techniques to achieve desired results and affect change. Acts as a role model. Sound background in complex nursing principles, procedures and demonstrates the ability to provide safe patient care. Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrates effective leadership skills. Professional Experience 3 years RN experience within clinical specialty required. 2 years of supervisory experience preferred. Education Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Licensure, Certification, Registration Certified Dialysis Nurse or Certified Nephrology Nurse preferred. Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Iowa required. Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.# Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date. Physical Demand Requirements Heavy: Exert 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently.
