Members Credit Union is Hiring a Remote Controller (Remote Option Available WI/MN/IN/CA/IL)

The Controller is responsible for developing a highly effective team of employees and developing each employee to their highest potential through coaching and leadership. This position is responsible for organizing, compiling, and preparing accurate and timely accounting information including general ledger account reconciliations, fixed asset and prepaid accounting entries, monthly closing activities, and assistance with the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting reports. This position also supports the membership and staff members with various accounting services and problems.

This position offers a virtual WFH option that is 100% Remote.

Remote applicants must live in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, California, or Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Influences strategic direction for the department, in close partnership with the SVP Chief Financial and People Officer.
  • Delivers exceptional leadership and management skills, with focus on creating high performing teams.

  • Improves and reinforces performance in others and develops talent for critical positions and/or future leadership roles.
  • Establishes appropriate limits of authority for all assigned personnel and ensures adequate understanding of procedures and policies.
  • Partners with SVP Chief Financial and People Officer to provide leadership over the finance and accounting function, and through direct reports, ensures the daily functioning of the department is effective, efficient, and supports the vision, mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates all functions of the accounting department, including the periodic processing, preparation, analysis and reporting of the organization’s financial results, regulatory reporting, annual audits, annual financial and capital budgets, as well as developing and maintaining a system of internal controls over the safekeeping, processing, and reporting of assets and financial results.
  • Oversees and coordinates periodic reporting of financial performance. Measures, monitors, and reports financial performance metrics to leadership. Assists leadership by providing financial information useful for decision-making. Examines financial results to look for cost savings.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP and regulatory financial requirements.
  • Develops and leads maintenance of our asset/liability management (ALM) to maximize, maintain, and ensure safety and soundness.
  • Directs the preparation of the organization’s annual financial and capital budget consistent with the organization’s short-term goals and long-term strategic plan.
  • Works closely with SVP Chief Financial and People Officer to develop, implement, and evaluate an investment strategy to supplement earnings while meeting the liquidity needs of the organization.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting and reporting software and enhances or replaces software as considered necessary.

Qualifications

  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Three to five years of auditing or accounting experience, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • Financial initiation experience preferred
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their practical application to the credit union industry
  • Knowledge and familiarity with industry, state, Federal and legal regulations pertaining to the financial industry in order to assist with maintaining compliance
