THIS IS A NON-CIVIL SERVICE POSITION POSTING DATE: 03/21/2024 CLOSING DATE: 06/21/2024 AT 12:00AM MIDNIGHT SALARY: $30.00 Hourly CLASS DESCRIPTION Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking a talented and creative Part-Time Graphic Designer with a flair for copywriting to join our special events team. This role will be responsible for producing visually compelling and on-brand design assets across various mediums, while also contributing to the development of engaging written content. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for design, a passion for storytelling, and the ability to seamlessly integrate visuals and words to convey impactful messages. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Create visually appealing design assets for both print and digital platforms, including but not limited to social media graphics, marketing collateral, and promotional materials. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver designs that align with brand guidelines. Stay updated on design trends and best practices to ensure the continuous improvement of our visual identity. Develop creative and compelling written content that aligns with brand messaging and objectives. Collaborate with the marketing and communication team to create copy for various channels, including website content, social media posts, email campaigns, and more. Ensure consistency in tone, style, and messaging across all written materials. Work Schedule: This is a part-time position, with flexibility in hours. The expected commitment is roughly 10-15 hours/week, with the possibility of increased hours during peak project periods. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Communication, or a related field from an accredited college or university. AND EXPERIENCE: Have two plus years of experience in graphic design and copywriting roles. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Proven experience as a graphic designer with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects. Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Strong copywriting skills with the ability to craft engaging and concise messages. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members. Detail-oriented with a keen eye for aesthetics and design principles. Familiarity with marketing principles and an understanding of how design and copy contribute to overall brand strategy. NOTE: Those eligible candidates who are under final consideration for appointment to positions in this class will be required to authorize the release of criminal conviction information.
