Job Description

Job Title: Behavior Support Specialist
Reports To: Behavioral Health Programs Manager
Compensation: $23.00 - $26.00/ hour, 2:00p - 10:30p (Tu-Sa)
FLSA Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

The Opportunity

All of the Macdonald Residence residents have complex needs and often a history of behavioral health and addictions challenges. As the Behavior Support Specialist, you will not only be working as a part of a cohesive and interdisciplinary resident care team, but you will also be supporting the facility in its ongoing endeavor to deliver comprehensive, holistic health models. You will be supported by caring and competent individuals that are passionate about the Macdonald Residence community.

Job Summary: The Behavioral Support Specialist in coordination with the Behavioral Health Manager, will provide individual support for residents as well as create and support programs within the Macdonald
Residence community which promote overall resident wellbeing. As part of the Behavioral Health Team, this role will coordinate with the nursing, direct care, resident services, and other staff members to assure that behavioral needs are identified, and behavioral health plans are effectively implemented. The
Behavioral Support Specialist will also coordinate services and information with community-based providers and appropriate resources.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with staff trainings in coordination with the People and Culture department and

Behavioral Health Programs Manager

  • Address daily resident behavioral needs
  • Work 2nd shift - 2:00pm - 10:30 pm
  • Facilitate resident connections with outside Mental Health and Rehab services
  • Organize/facilitate education, skill-building, wellness groups and trainings for residents
  • Incident Report follow up
  • Ability to accompany residents to appointments in the community
  • Skilled in de-escalation and crisis intervention
  • Assist with completing BSPs for every resident
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in the mental health field
  • Ability to effectively document and utilize electronic medical records
  • Strong ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethics

  • Work as a member of the Macdonald Residence multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive, client centered, and trauma informed integrated services

Company Wide Responsibilities:

  • Keeps all resident information confidential and follows HIPAA policies and protocols.
  • Organizes and utilizes time appropriately toward accomplishing assigned tasks.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with residents, general public, and co-workers. Displays willingness to assist co-workers when situation requires. Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with residents, residents' families, visitors, and staff.
  • Protects privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to the resident, employee, residence, and company.
  • Contributes to a strong, cohesive team environment.
  • Maintains a safe and secure working environment.
  • Complete ongoing training through classes and meetings in order to provide excellent care and meet state compliance and other requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with minimum 5 years related experience and/or training.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • CADC I or higher, or QMHA helpful, but not required.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment is characteristic of an Assisted Living Facility in which healthcare and basic needs are provided to the frail elderly. The noise level is usually moderate.
