Major League Baseball is Hiring a Freelance Production Manager Near Secaucus, NJ

Position Reports To: Sr Director, Remote Operations

Position Summary: The Freelance Production Manager will support the Remote Operations department by handling all logistics for assigned remotes (e.g., events such Showcase Games, International Events, and NHK Support) and any other assigned events. The Freelance Production Manager will distribute documents and information for Plays of the Week to the International Partners. This position requires travel and working in Secaucus, NJ at the MLB Network offices.

Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with Mobile Unit provider as to scheduling, equipment levels and vendor logistics for assigned remote events.
  • Responsible for on-boarding, crewing and payrolling all technical and support personnel for assigned remote events (either through third-party crewers or directly).
  • Coordinate travel, ground transportation, and hotels for working staff and talent.
  • Manage budgets, including issuing show estimates and timely submission of actual expense reports.
  • Timely, accurate approval and coding of invoices and show cost - related expense reports.
  • Coordinate office trailers, catering, generators, security, shipping and other remote location expenses.
  • Handle credentialing for production, technical, talent and corporate needs.
  • Create Show Books and Production Memo for remote events, including working with Technical Manager on issuing Tech Book.
  • Serve as both onsite and home base Production Manager for various events during the year.
  • Manage legal paperwork associated with vendor quotes and onboarding new vendors.
  • Coordinate and manage Live U needs for international partners.
  • Work closely with NHK's operations team when needed.
  • Coordinate vendors onsite logistics for events, IE travel and credentials.
  • Other such duties as required.

It is expected that the Production Manager will maintain and increase the knowledge base in the Operations discipline as well as the business on an ongoing basis.

Skills & Experience: The ideal candidate must have most if not all the following skills and experiences:

  • 3 years prior sports Operations experience is required.
  • Substantial knowledge of baseball and the nuances and challenges of live sports broadcasting.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be extremely detailed, organized, demonstrate initiative and the ability to complete multiple assignments in a timely manner.
  • Individual must work well in a dynamic environment and be able to recommend and implement process improvements, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate the tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, and superior people skills required in the pressurized environment of live television.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to regularly travel domestically and/or internationally.
  • Ability to lift up to 30-40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk various distances between required on site locations.
  • Ability to work effectively while exposed to varying and unpredictable weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.
  • Individual must possess strong computer skills and be an effective user of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Possess the manual dexterity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Possess the visual acuity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Possess the auditory acuity needed to effectively create required work product.

Education: Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Work Classification: Employee permitted to work remotely 40% of the week, with the days in the office determined by the manager of the individual employee.
