OVERVIEW: The Grant Accountant is a full-time position based out of the Love146 Charlotte location. This position assumes responsibility for pre- to post-award grant accounting, thus ensuring compliance with funding source administrative guidelines, timely receipt of revenue, accurate submission of financial reports, audit and orderly closure of projects. Position requires understanding of bookkeeping procedures as well as federal requirements and granting agency guidelines.

COMPENSATION: $63,000 - $65,000 annually

TRAVEL: Potential for 1-2 annual domestic trips

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Accounting (60%):
- Stay current on federal requirements and granting agency guidelines and the interpretation of such grants.
- Participate in the pre-award financial planning process for all grant applications, including budget creation, budget narratives and other tasks as specified in the grant application.
- Directly consult with all internal stakeholders concerning the sponsored programs and other restricted accounts as they relate to financial administration of grants.
- Build and maintain relationships with key state and community-based agencies, independent service providers and program supporters.
- Assist with the annual renewal of the organization’s negotiated indirect cost rate agreement.
- Coordinate all grant audit activity and prepare detailed audit schedules.
- Prepare financial reports in accordance with grant requirements.
- Monitor and track the status of grant(s), taking ownership of ensuring budget compliance. Coordinate with the Director of Grants on finance compliance for grant agreements.
- Prepare invoice/billings for the support of grant expenditures.
- Assist with creating grant-related schedules for quarterly board meetings.
- Maintain staff allocations related to grants for timecards, expense reports, and expense allocations.
- Prepare and disseminate budget modifications as needed, in conjunction with internal stakeholder directives.
- Work with internal stakeholders to report staff changes to grantors as required.
- Apply indirect costs monthly or quarterly, as required.
- Assist with maintaining grant files for the Finance department.
- Perform other activities or special projects as assigned.
- Create and maintain internal financial guidelines for new and existing grants.
- Provide training & workshops to all grant stakeholders on how to more efficiently and effectively manage their respective grants in following granting agency guidelines, and all applicable federal regulations related to special programs.
General Accounting (40%):
- Manage and update all finance-related software and technology.
- Troubleshoot finance-related technical issues.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and regulatory changes to ensure products are compliant and competitive.
- Coordinate the training of newly hired staff on finance technology and update Love146 staff with updates.Miscellaneous ad hoc projects, as assigned by the Director of Finance.
- Provide financial analysis as required to support other staff members.
- Review and approve financial transactions within accounting systems.
- Assist in the closing of Love146 month-end and fiscal year-end books.
- Assist with the annual financial audit.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Required minimum of three years of experience in grant/fund accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, budget preparation, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and other related laws pertaining to grants.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organization skills, and time management.
- Nonprofit Finance knowledge.
- Knowledge of financial systems (Sage Intacct, Expensify, Google, Bill) and CRM (Salesforce)

WORKING CONDITIONS
The incumbent must spend long hours sitting, using office equipment and performing computer operations, which requires intense mental and visual concentration and eye hand coordination. The incumbent is located in a busy, open office area during days in the office, with regular interruptions which may cause stress. The incumbent is required to deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
