The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a HR Specialist for our Human Resources department. The HR Specialist works closely with the Sr. Human Resources Manager at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Assist the Sr Human Resources Manager in developing, creating, and implementing employee programs throughout NHMLAC.
Orchestrate and implement ad-hoc special projects as assigned by the Human Resources Department.
Assist the Director, Safety & Risk with project-based assignments, administration, and recordkeeping and inspections. Must be self driven and able to utilize critical thinking in order to complete projects within agreed time frame. Being self driven to do research will be key in successful completion of projects.
Assist the Director, Safety & Risk with managing workman's compensation claims from initial reporting all the way through the closure of the claim. Help develop and update the NHM Google Intranet page with safety and environmental information.
Provide full-cycle Leave of Absence services to department staff under the Sr Human Resources manager, including but not limited to: providing employees with information on FMLA, CFRA, PDLL, USERRA, and ADA; issuing leave of absences letters; sending payroll processing information to the Payroll Manager; responding to EDD; reviewing medical accommodations in preparation for the employee’s return to work.
Oversee and delegate the completion and issuing of mandatory legal posters.
Support Sr Human Resources Manager and Human Resources Manager in all Human Resources special events, including but not limited to: annual Years of Service Awards, quarterly Staff Morale Events, annual On-Site Vaccination Clinics, and annual Holiday Party.
This position has the following requirements:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or other relevant field(s)
Minimum 5 years experience in Human Resources or other relevant field(s)
Knowledge of Federal and State level leave laws including but not limited to: FMLA, CFRA, PDLL, USERRA, and ADA
Experience with HRIS (Human Resources Information System), preferably ADP
Experience with MS Office Suite programs, such as: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community. Hourly range for this position is $28.16 - $30.28 based on experience plus excellent benefits. This is a full time regular, non-exempt position.
