Role Overview:
Alameda Health System is offering the Administrative Fellowship Program for 2024. This unique opportunity is intended to strengthen the pipeline for underrepresented minorities in healthcare leadership roles and provide the fellow exposure to the working of a public health system. The Alameda Health System’s twelve-month Administrative Fellowship Program will offer challenging, hands-on administrative experiences to early careerists who: Supported by the System’s executive leadership, the program provides fellows an array of educational opportunities over the twelve-month experience.
The Fellow’s role is an active, participatory one. The Fellow attends all appropriate meetings and is involved in committee work. The feature that most distinguishes this program is the level of hands-on experience. The Fellow is able to play a role of genuine importance both in Alameda Health System’s day-to-day administrative operations, and in the overall planning of its future. The opportunities are unlimited.
The individuals who complete an administrative fellowship at Alameda Health System are in a unique position to gain entry into the field of healthcare administration and begin a dynamic career by taking advantage of their experience. All of these duties require the use of tact and strict confidentiality in the handling of sensitive information, independent judgment, discretion, and flexibility. The Fellow must be able to quickly learn new concepts and be extremely detail-oriented. The Fellow will be a representative of AHS and should exemplify the core values.
The fellow is sponsored by the Health System CEO and the executive preceptor is the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of our Community Hospitals.The fellow will be provided opportunities for mentorship from senior leaders, continued learning within a safety net health system, and exposure to business planning projects that fulfill organizational needs while satisfying the fellow’s interests and goals.The program provides fellows with exposure to operations through a series of structured rotations during the first six months across Alameda Health System, including acute, post-acute, behavioral, and ambulatory operations, population health, strategy, finance, and other areas across the healthcare system.Once that is completed, the fellow will work for the remainder of the fellowship, under the direction of the CAO and Business Planning, to complete one or two strategic, or business planning projects, as defined by the executive preceptor and aligned with the fellow’s interest and serves organizational needs. The fellowship will begin in July.These opportunities are geared towards developing fellows to providing opportunities as they arise to prepare the Fellow for leadership positions in healthcare.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
Analyze lease vs. buy options or capital purchase justification; calculates net present value, return on investment, documents and utilizes believable assumptions, interprets vendor contracts correctly, identifies vendor compliance issues, summarizes and presents recommendations.Analyze new service lines and programs; develops work plans that include all relevant tasks and timeframes, performs comprehensive research, tests projections and assumptions for reasonableness, provides data, utilizes appropriate financial and statistical formulas, models and trends data, incorporates an understanding of specific payor reimbursement issues and trends.Assesses business development initiatives and programmatic opportunities by working collaboratively with key staff, internal and external stakeholders.Assists in market assessment and other annual strategic planning activities.Conducts needs assessments, required research and develops supporting documentation for new service lines and related business opportunities including establishment of clear business objectives, financial opportunity, and risk analysis.Identify opportunities to improve services and make recommendations based on data gathering and research for the business planning, market assessment, and program planning goals of the strategic business units.Performs analyses, reports and presentations on organization-wide strategy, planning initiatives and issues, as assigned by the executive preceptor.Schedule and attend ongoing rotation across the business units and timely completion of rotation across all units within the first six months.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Required Education: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Public Policy or similar field accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) or other graduate school accrediting association or commission.
