Description
The Kentucky Department of Insurance regulates the Commonwealth's insurance market, licenses agents and other insurance professionals, monitors the financial condition of companies, educates consumers to make wise choices, and ensures Kentuckians are treated fairly in the marketplace.
The Division of Property and Casualty Insurance is responsible for the review of rates, rules, and forms of all admitted property and casualty insurance companies. Operating in strict accordance with Kentucky’s Insurance Code, the division consistently strives to provide a healthy, stable, and competitive marketplace while serving to protect Kentucky’s consumers.
We are looking for an Insurance Program Manager to join our team of highly skilled professionals. The Insurance Program Manager manages various insurance regulatory programs within the Division of Property and Casualty Insurance.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Interprets laws, rules, regulations, and operating policies in property and casualty insurance for staff, insurance companies, and the general public. Reviews and recommends changes in laws, regs, and policies
  • Trains staff regarding laws, regulations, and operating policies in property and casualty insurance.
  • Supervises, assigns, and reviews the duties and performance of program employees. Approves employee time and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Maintains records and prepares programmatic reports as relates to P&C products to ensure that insurance companies are adhering to the insurance code of Kentucky.
  • Assists in coordination of property and casualty programs with other divisions. Represents Department of Insurance with citizen and professional groups, on adjunct boards and media.
  • Performs complex analysis of property and casualty products for compliance with state laws and regulations. Identifies non-compliance or potential violations and addresses issues with Advisory Organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of experience in any of the following insurance areas: administration or management, regulation, consulting, broker/agent, risk management, marketing/sales or financial examination.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in accounting, business administration, insurance or a related field will substitute for the experience on a year for year basis. Certification by a professional accounting or a national insurance organization (such as CPA, CLU, FLMI, CFE, AFE or CPCU) will meet the education and experience requirements.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
