Job description

You’ll be Responsible for:

  • Provides oral and external medications to residents under the supervision and guidance of a registered nurse or a certified practical/vocational nurse.
  • Handles, stores, and disposes of pharmaceuticals in accordance with current hygiene, safety, and infection control requirements.
  • Administers medications within 60 minutes of the scheduled time.
  • Determines and alerts hazardous situations for drug administration.
  • Records drug administration accurately.
  • Identifies and reports general drug responses.
  • Understands the Medication Aide role's limits.
  • Takes and records vital signs upon administration of medications when required.
  • acknowledges the right of the resident to refuse medicine.
  • Notifies the authorized RN/LPN when deciding not to deliver medicine or therapy.
  • Consults with the relevant licensed nurse (RN/LPN) to clarify any order or treatment regimen that is thought to be incorrect, ineffective, or contraindicated.
  • Removes discontinued, obsolete, or deteriorating medications from inventory.
  • Monitors residents who self-administer drugs and reports deviations from the plan of care to the licensed or registered nurse.

What You Need to Possess:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Proof of COVID vaccination
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more
  • Willingness to undergo a background check
  • Proven track record in providing exceptional customer service
  • The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, & the general public
  • The ability to clearly relate information concerning a resident’s condition
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
