The International Center of Photography (ICP) is the world’s leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Through our exhibitions, education, public programs, and community outreach, we offer an open forum for dialogue about the power of the image. Since our founding in 1974, we have presented more than 700 exhibitions and offered thousands of classes, providing instruction at every level. Our new integrated center on the Lower East Side reunites our school and museum in one space to become the cultural anchor of Essex Crossing.

Position Summary:

The Development Manager will be a pro-active, highly motivated, and detail-oriented individual with the ability to take on self-guided research and database projects while working collaboratively with team members across the organization to support the Development Department. Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, this role will provide instrumental support for securing general operating and program-restricted funding from individuals for ICP. Overseeing research and prospect management, individual giving, and development operations, the Development Manager will implement prospect management systems, identify, and qualify prospects through strategic research practices, and systematically use the donor database to grow a robust giving program. 

Essential Functions and Duties:

Individual Giving (33%):

• Manages prospect pool for board development and endowment campaign initiatives, directly supporting the Director of Individual Giving in major giving areas 
• Drafts detailed briefing documents for in preparation for major gift prospect and campaign meetings with Individuals
• Drafts personalized donor correspondence to support Individual Giving solicitations and gift acknowledgements
• Prepares reports and materials on ICP programs and initiatives for current and prospective funders 

 Prospect Management and Research (33%): 

• Establishes and oversees a Prospect Management system for Development staff and works with the Director of Individual Giving, Associate Director of Events and Corporate Partnerships, Director of Foundation and Government Support, and Chief Development Officer to develop an annual and long-term operational plan for the use of the database as a strategic tool for the Development team
• Oversees portfolio management for Development team, Executive Director, and other ICP staff and trustees, utilizing reports and notifications to drive action plans
• Tracks all donor interactions and records next steps in a detailed and organized fashion, ensuring solicitor accountability
• Collaborates with the Development Coordinator on determining best practices for database use 
• Develops proactive research strategy to help build the Individual and Institutional donor base
• Identifies and qualifies Individual and Institutional prospects, and prepares materials for prospect review meetings
• Provides calibrated, succinct research notes on current Individual and Institutional donors and members and in anticipation of all events
• Prepares thorough research profiles on top Individual and Institutional donors and in preparation for meetings
• Keeps up to date records through the use

Development Operations and Support (33%):

• Oversee and implement best practices across department for development operations including gift processing and receipting; importing data into Raiser’s Edge via ImportOmatic; reporting and ticketing from ACME POS system
• Manage financial reporting from Raiser’s Edge for development, finance, visitor services, and legal departments
• Manage donor lists from Raiser’s Edge to support development events 
• Oversee development technology expenditures and research technical solutions for potential migration to new software systems 
• Oversee Development Coordinator on day to day membership administration, campaigns, events, and communications, including assisting with the membership phone line and email inbox
• Project manage the strategic planning to shift membership program to more sustainable future model 
• Provide grant writing support for program and general operating institutional fundraising goals 

Additional Responsibilities:

• Attends and assists at evening and other Development events as needed

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Requirement:

• Bachelor’s Degree, MA, or Certificate in Arts Administration a plus 

Minimum Experience Requirement:

•  3 years of progressively responsible experience in a development role, with experience in a museum and/or educational setting preferred

• Experience with prospect research and knowledge of moves management systems
• Ability to work independently and effectively summarize communications while discerning information for next steps
• Interest in data management and analysis 
• Power-user of Blackbaud Raisers Edge or comparable donor management system with proficient knowledge of query and export functions
• Proficiency in the use of current Microsoft Office software applications.
• Strong organizational skills: ability to manage projects and workflow, using time and resources effectively
• Ability to work under pressure and to handle various special projects on an ongoing basis while addressing daily needs for the office.
• Respect for donor confidentiality and privacy.
• BA/BS or equivalent preferred.
