Engineer Operations Lead

Job Title: Engineering Operations Lead

Job Location: Duluth, Georgia

Work Schedule: Hybrid: M-F (3 days in office 2 days remote).

Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering & Product Development, the Engineering Operations Lead, will be a dynamic force at the intersection of leadership and technical excellence. This role requires a distinctive combination of managerial acumen, technical expertise, and hands-on problem-solving. The Engineering Operations Lead will take charge of guiding a team of skilled engineers, all while actively participating in the technical intricacies of projects. The role involves not only leading and coordinating but also contributing directly to the success of engineering endeavors, ensuring a seamless blend of effective management and hands-on technical innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members to enhance their professional development.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the engineering team.
  • Implement strategies for team development, including training programs, skill-building initiatives, and career progression planning.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments and provide constructive feedback to support individual and team growth.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard new engineering talent to strengthen the team.

2. Project Management:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they align with organizational goals and timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, scope, and deliverables.
  • Utilize project management tools to monitor progress, identify potential risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies.

3. Technical Contributions:

  • Actively participate in the technical aspects of projects, leveraging expertise to drive successful outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team, assisting in complex problem-solving and decision-making processes.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continually enhance the team's technical capabilities.

4. Collaboration and Communications:

  • Foster effective communication channels within the engineering team and with stakeholders across different departments.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of engineering processes with overall business operations.
  • Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into understandable terms.

5. Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the engineering operations, optimizing workflows for increased efficiency.
  • Implement best practices and methodologies to streamline development processes and enhance overall operational effectiveness.

6. Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an engineering or technical team.
  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience with design and development.
  • Successful track record of managing and mentoring teams towards achieving project goals and deadlines.
  • Proven leadership skills in team building, management, and strategic planning.
  • Broad technology experience including familiarity API, micro services, cloud data architecture, web & mobile development and event driven architectures.
  • Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD (Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery).
  • Proven experience in the design and development of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software for both electrical and mechanical design.
  • Expertise in Firmware, Hardware, or Software, with a comprehensive understanding of all three.
  • Competency in Agile/Scrum methodologies, project planning, and execution.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.

  • Persuasive and influential communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Active listening skills and ability to effectively implement feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement.
  • Competence in long-term planning, goal setting, and identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
  • Proven leadership in effective cross-functional collaboration, fostering a culture of open communication and idea-sharing.
  • Track record of fostering positive team dynamics and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability in mentorship, talent recognition, and creating professional development opportunities.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations. Solid understanding of control systems, sensors, actuators, and automation.
