About the Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) is looking for an experienced Project Engineer - Civil to join our Team! We are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil Engineering firm. In this role you will be responsible for applying intensive and diversified knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices in broad areas. Also, will use advanced techniques, theory precepts and practices in the civil engineering field and related sciences and disciplines. This is a lead position, which include technical direction over a group of civil engineers and/or functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced civil engineering concepts. What You'll Do
Coordinates technical and administrative activities with those of other disciplines and other departments in the company participating in a project.
Perform QA/QC of plans, calculations, specifications, and quantities developed by civil engineering and other project engineers as per IEI QA/QC plan.
As a Project Engineer, serves as a technical specialist, staff advisor, and consultant to the civil engineering specialty for a given land/site development, public works, and/or transportation-related project or program function.
As a Staff Engineer, carries out complex or novel assignments requiring developing new or improved civil engineering techniques or procedures to create new or refined equipment, materials, processes, or methods.
Markets the firm’s capabilities within the civil engineering specialty to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
Prepares proposals for potential projects.
Participates in selecting design teams and sub-consultants and in the negotiations of fees and subcontractors.
Conducts constructability reviews or assists in the design/planning/review of other civil engineering projects not assigned to the incumbent.
May supervise civil engineering and support personnel; evaluates performance; assigns and schedules work; establishes project priorities and standards; makes recommendations on hiring, firing, and promotions; provides technical support of project work.
May assist the Department/Division Manager in preparing the department/division budget and policy implementation.
Takes time to train and mentor colleagues on acquired skill sets to improve overall team quality and performance.
Takes the initiative in developing and/or refining existing templates and procedures to streamline effort for the entire team.

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
At least 5 years of specialized work experience within a discipline
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire.
Handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to comprehend and apply advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory principles.
Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to read, analyzes, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

Working Conditions
Usually works in outside weather conditions.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work outdoors in various weather conditions, possibly for an extended period of time, depending on the assignment type. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud and may require the use of hearing protection.
