IDEA Public Charter School is Hiring a Campus Operations Manager Near Washington, DC

Position: Facility Manager

Job Summary

IDEA PCS is seeking a highly productive Facility Manager to oversee the efficient and effective functioning of the school's physical facilities and operational processes. This person will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position requires strong leadership and problem-solving skills to manage various operational aspects while contributing to the school's overall success.

This position reports to the director of enrollment and business.
Work Hours: 7:30AM - 4:00 PM (30-minute lunch)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facility Management:
  • Supervise and coordinate the maintenance and cleanliness of all school buildings, classrooms, offices, and common areas (including outdoor areas).
  • Oversee and manage the scheduling of repairs, renovations, and maintenance tasks, ensuring minimal disruption to school operations.
  • Manage the HVAC, plumbing, and the total functioning of the building systems
  • Program and maintain building access systems including building alarm, keys, fob and clickers for the building
  • Safety and Security:
  • Train and manage security team/contractors to maintain and enhance campus security measures, including access control, surveillance systems, and emergency response plans.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures.
  • Resource Allocation:
  • Manage and optimize the allocation of campus resources, including space, equipment, and supplies, to support various school activities and events.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory tracking system for school assets and equipment.
  • Vendor and Contract Management:
  • Understanding and enforcing contracts with external vendors for services such as cleaning, maintenance, security, and other campus-related functions.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and oversee the performance of contracted services.
  • Event Planning and Coordination:
  • Coordinate logistics and support for school events, meetings, and special programs, including setup, cleanup, and resource coordination.
  • Collaborate with school staff and event organizers to ensure seamless event execution.
  • IT Department Oversight
  • Manage the school's Information Technology (IT) department, providing leadership and guidance to IT staff to ensure efficient and effective IT operations.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and academic staff to identify IT needs and develop strategies for integrating technology into the educational environment.
  • Compliance and Regulations:
  • Stay informed about local regulations, health and safety standards, and relevant laws pertaining to school facilities and operations.
  • Ensure the school's compliance with all regulatory requirements related to campus operations.
  • Leadership and Team Management:
  • Lead and supervise a team of maintenance staff, custodians, security and other support personnel, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, and support professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Maintain effective communication channels with school administrators, teachers, and support staff regarding campus operations and facility-related matters.
  • Collaborate with various school departments to address operational needs and enhance the overall school environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, business administration, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience may be considered).
  • Proven experience in facilities management, operations, or a similar leadership role.
  • Physical Demands:Work requires some strenuous physical exertion including standing, climbing, crawling, and regular lifting of objects over 50 pounds.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to school facilities and operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software applications for budget tracking, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond to changing priorities and situations.
  • Takes initiative and ownership over work and thinks proactively about needs and potential issues to ensure effective school operations.
  • Pass a background check and adhere to the school's code of conduct and confidentiality policies.
