Position: Math Specialist

About IDEA

IDEA Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. serves approximately 320 students in Grades 9-12. Our unique program prepares students for both college and careers. In addition to offering college preparatory courses, including Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment options, we also provide students with a variety of options for career technical education. All students at IDEA complete a career program of study. We currently offer the following career programs: child development, construction, computer science, culinary arts, and hospitality and tourism. We are considering several new programs for School Year 2024-2025, including business management and cosmetology. Our school is located in the historic Deanwood neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C. Position Overview:

The Math Specialist is responsible for delivering targeted instruction and support to students who require additional assistance in Algebra I and Geometry. This individual will work closely with students to identify areas of weakness, provide personalized instruction to address learning gaps, and implement research-based intervention strategies to improve mathematical proficiency. The Math Specialist will collaborate with classroom teachers and administrators to develop curriculum, intervention plans, monitor student progress, and adjust instruction as needed to ensure student success.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver effective instruction in Algebra I and Geometry to students in need of math intervention support.
  • Assess students' mathematical abilities and develop individualized learning plans to target areas of weakness and build foundational skills.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and resources to engage students and promote conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills.
  • Monitor and track student progress through ongoing formative assessments, benchmark assessments, and data analysis.
  • Provide timely feedback to students on their progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly to address individual learning needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other stakeholders to coordinate interventions and support services for students receiving math intervention.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and reinforce strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with research-based practices in math intervention and support.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and intervention activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with a demonstrated ability to effectively teach Algebra I and Geometry.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and addressing the needs of struggling learners.
  • Strong understanding of math curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
  • Knowledge of research-based interventions and best practices for supporting students with math difficulties.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic educational environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $63,352.00 per year
