Description

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented Director of Development to lead our organization's fundraising efforts and drive organizational growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit fundraising and experience in strategic planning and leadership. This role is responsible for implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure funding from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. This role reports to the Chief Operations Officer. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

· In all activities, the Director of Development implements the Foundation’s fund development plan in accordance with ethical fundraising principles, following a donor-centric model of philanthropy.

· The Director of Development works with donors directly and in combination with the Executive Director while managing staff and contractors that work in marketing & public relations, grants, fundraising technology, and special events. 

· Implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet annual fundraising goals.

· Responsible for oversight of grant funding. Works with the team members to submit grants while maintaining Virtuous as the grants management tool and provide status updates to the Leadership team. Support grant writing as needed. 

· Develop initiatives to build Corporate Partner programs that include annual support, workplace giving, and event sponsorship.

· Grows individual giving program, ensuring appropriate recognition and cultivation in a continuous cycle for annual and major gifts. 

· Oversee management of annual fundraising gala and other events. Plan and execute major gift cultivation and stewardship events, including small gatherings, donor-recognition events, and donor visits. 

· Collaborates with CEO and COO to: 

-assist board members and related committees with scheduling donor meetings, and documenting and following up on meeting outcomes, 

-budget and forecast activities for the development function. 

· Spearheads the development and implementation of a legacy gifts program. 

· Writes content for development purposes, including press releases, appeals, event communication, and website giving pages. Contribute and collaborate on marketing, messaging advertising, online solicitations, and regular constituent engagement pieces through traditional and new channels. 

· Utilizes and maintains Virtuous CRM integrity of data collection; work with team members to maintain prospect contribution records to ensure the accuracy of information for contacts, biographies, meetings, gift entries, and acknowledgments. 

· Oversees/manages the day-to-day performance of the organizations development functions through:

- Acknowledgment and fulfillment of gifts and pledges, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to funding sources,

-Evaluation and implementation of internal systems, metrics, policies, and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness for the division’s development efforts.

· Serve as a key spokesperson for the organization to donors, funders, and the community.

· Occasional evening and weekend event attendance may be required.

· Stay current on fundraising trends and best practices. 

· Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; Master's degree preferred.

· Experience with donor database management systems (Virtuous preferred). 

· Minimum 3-5 years experience in fundraising, including a history of managing prospects at increasing capacity levels and successfully closing gifts at each level. 

· Proven track record of successfully securing funding from diverse sources. 

· Strong leadership and management skills. 

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

· Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. 

· Knowledge of fundraising software and databases. 

· Commitment to the organization's mission and values.
