CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Exempt

ABOUT HUSHABYE NURSERY:

Hushabye Nursery is an Arizona nonprofit organization with a mission to ‘embrace substance exposed babies and their caregivers with compassionate, evidence-based care that changes the course of their entire lives. The organization was founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal nurse practitioner who witnessed firsthand the challenges of newborns exposed prenatally to opioids and those families trying to care for them. Hushabye Nursery’s innovative model offers a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members and babies – from conception through childhood – can receive integrative care and therapeutic support that offers each child the best possible life outcomes. Programs will include prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services and outpatient therapies.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Acts as an advocate and provides case management, group facilitation and direct counseling for families that include addiction recovery support and mental health services with a focus on Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Utilizing a holistic, family-center approach, assesses, plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates actions required to meet the family’s needs.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:

QUALTICATIONS/COMPETENCIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • In accordance with the vision, mission and values of Hushabye Nursery, the Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC) is responsible for providing quality care and services that meets the needs of persons served. 
  • Provides care and services in a supportive, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Conducts substance abuse psychological evaluations, assessments, treatment plan reviews, and treatment recommendations. 
  • Provide training related to substance use and trauma-informed care prevention to community partners with a focus on tribal populations and offering expertise on recovery to local providers and working with providers to address challenges and barriers.
  • Provide individual and small group experiential interventions, including somatic interventions for trafficking survivors, substance abuse relapse and prevention, and 1:1 supports and services as needed.
  • Collaborate with additional treatment providers and placement agencies. 
  • Advocate, model and support implementation of agency and community-level initiatives around trauma informed care practices.
  • Conduct refresher training at intervals using nationally recognized concepts in trauma-informed mental and emotional healthcare.
  • Provide trauma-informed care in an intelligible way non-professional audience including volunteers and donors.
  • Provide psychoeducation work with individuals and families on development of coping and affect regulation skills. 
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a broad range of staff and community partners.
  • Assess physical spaces for potentially triggering or otherwise distressing stimuli that can induce counterproductive emotional reactions in organizational space.
  • Completes required orientation and continuing competencies as required by policy and procedure. 
  • Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned. 

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • Master's degree in Substance Abuse Counseling 
  • Independent Licensure with ability to supervise associates
  • Preferred certifications in providing trauma-informed care

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Effective communication, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Background in health care, social work, mental health, and/or substance use.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Must be passionate about treating families who are struggling with substance abuse.
  • Current AZ DPS Level 1 fingerprint clearance card.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Ability to remain calm in crisis situations. 
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in substance abuse treatment
