Description

The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) is an individual who has had significant life-altering experiences (referred to as lived experience) with substance use disorder and are living in recovery. The PSS will assist and guide clients toward the identification and achievement of specific goals defined by the client and specified in their treatment plan. The work involves a variety of tasks working collaboratively with staff of all levels to help facilitate client recovery. PSS will promote pro-social community activities, recovery, self-advocacy, self-help, and development of a support system. The work will be performed in a wide range of settings.

This position is Part-Time and for late afternoon/evening shifts and weekend (Saturday, Sunday) shifts.

  • Uses past experiences to provide individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching, and support to individuals seeking or in active recovery.
  • Assists clients in identifying effective coping techniques, self-help strategies, and increasing social support networks.
  • Collaborates with local programs and assist participants in accessing community resources and support services. Ensuring having up-to-date information and locating specialized resources as needed.
  • Facilitates or assists in group and individual settings to promote recovery.
  • Serve as an advocate for the participants (including DCS meetings and writing letters of recommendation for participants as requested).
  • Works in a variety of settings providing support, guidance, and education for individuals seeking or in active recovery.
  • Observes all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment, both internally and externally.
  • Completes necessary activities and documentation related to grant funded projects, where applicable.
  • Adheres to deliverable timelines, both internally and externally.
  • Report child abuse and/or neglect as in accordance to Arizona State laws.
  •  Act as primary liaison with case management and clinical staff ensuring proper continuum of care options are provided, resources identified and provided, and DCS coordination occurs in timely manner 
  • Must have valid Level 1 Fingerprint Card upon applying.
  • Peer Support Certification.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • AZ Credentialed (having successfully completed and passed Arizona's recognized competency exam for Peer Recovery Support Specialist. 
  • Minimum one year in active recovery.
  • Experience with navigating a behavioral health system and other community support programs is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license may be required for Peer Support Specialists providing transportation to clients.
  • High School or equivalent (required).
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
