Homer A. Plessy Community School is Hiring a Middle School Dance Teacher Near Orleans, LA

Start Date: Immediate, Current School Year

Job Summary:

Under the administrative supervision of the Director of the Arts, the Dance Teacher is responsible for: developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in dance using skills and techniques of artistic expression; developing aesthetic understandings and appreciations; discovering and developing talents of students in the field of dance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and certification in an area of curriculum focus (Dance); (Required)
  • Minimum two (2) years successful teaching experience; (desired)
  • Strong communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong classroom management

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop lessons and curriculum progression according to the National Arts Standards
  • Teach knowledge and skills in dance including history of dance.
  • Demonstrate dance techniques in activities
  • Understand a variety of “masters” techniques
  • Provides individual and small-group instruction while adapting the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and accommodates students in a variety of instructional activities
  • Instruct students in proper health and safety
  • Organize storage areas and manage use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare report card grades
  • Plan and present student's dance performances
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration
