Homer A. Plessy Community School is Hiring a Special Education Instructional Coach Near Orleans, LA

As a successful Special Education Instructional Coach you will serve as a member of the Student Support team offering educational, psychological, social, motor, sensory, behavioral, and emotional services to students. At Homer Plessy Community Schools we strive to understand and meet all students at their level, and provide our staff with the tools and resources to intervene successfully for those students. This role is not only important in uplifting individual student programs, but also to enhance special education and interventions for all students at Homer Plessy Community Schools. The position is responsible for supporting the professional growth and development of special education teachers to facilitate learning and independent application of effective instructional practices. The Special Education Instructional Coach will work with special education teachers and general education teachers to implement the Tier 1 curriculum to all students across the elementary and middle schools. The position provides support to teachers through co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, conducting classroom visits, analyzing data, and offering actionable feedback. The Special Education Instructional Coach will work closely with the Director of Special Education, will report to the Chief of Student Support, and the principals of the Elementary and Middle School.

Position Description and Expectations

* Coach special education teachers in all aspects of push-in general education instruction, pull-out small group instruction, specialized instruction, and individual instruction.

* Coach special education teachers on how to implement Tier 1 curriculum in all aspects of instruction.

* Facilitate a positive and productive relationship between general education teachers, special education teachers, and paraprofessionals in the classroom and during planning periods.

* Observe and debrief teachers on a determined regular schedule dependent on individual need. Create action plans for teachers.

* Model effective teaching strategies and facilitate curriculum implementation.

* Help locate and create materials for special education teachers to utilize in instruction and align to Tier 1 curriculum.

* Create and manage special education teacher service provider schedules

* Help train staff on accommodations, modifications, and other special education best practices through PDs and ongoing consultation.

* Support teachers in their efforts to write and maintain practical, meaningful, and effectual IEP goals. Collaborate with the Director of Special Education to review IEPs and support teachers’ IEP goal writing growth.

* Collaborates with teachers, interventionists, and instructional coaches in planning for specific student learning outcomes based on assessed needs of individual students and the use of data and information to determine each student’s current skill level, support student learning goals, and assess student progress.

* Contributes as a member of the IEP team for individual students when appropriate, and attends and participates in IEP meetings as ODR when necessary.

* Monitor and ensure completion of quarterly progress reports

*Coordinate with the Director of Special Education and the Chief of Student Support on testing accommodations and test scheduling for students with accommodations.

* Monitors data tracking and analysis of progress for all student goals - academic, behavioral, and functional

* Maintain positive, collaborative relationships with faculty/staff in order to facilitate tough conversations about students with exceptionalities

Qualifications

* Must possess a Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 4 years teaching experience.

* Must possess demonstrated knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to IDEA requirements

* Possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

* Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, administrators, advocates, students and others.

* Experience successfully managing a team of adults

* Preference for candidates that have experience working with the curriculums: Wit & Wisdom; Illustrative Math; Unique Learning System

* Preference will be given to candidates with previous Special Education teaching experience, previous leadership experience, or candidates holding an M.Ed, MAT, or other advanced degree.
