About FirstLine Schools

In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans. FirstLine now operates several (Pre)K-8th grade schools. Our mission is to create and inspire great, open admissions public schools in New Orleans.

Our faculty is a diverse and talented group dedicated to our students’ success and to their own growth as teachers. Our schools are led by leaders who hold themselves accountable for student achievement and teacher development.

Position Summary

The After School Dance Instructor will provide students an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of dance, choreography, and exposure to multiple genres of dance while supervising and managing their development of the understanding of the craft four (4) days a week. The Instructor will be expected to conduct occasional weekend performances.

Position Responsibilities:

• Supervises students in an after school setting
• Prepares and develops choreography for students for performances throughout the year, to include parades and games
• Prepares culminating performance or showcase to display student growth
• Teaches school students the fundamentals and rules of dance
• Supports students in their growth and understanding of dance
• Remains committed to our students for the entire year
• Records and reports daily attendance 
• Manages and maintains inventory of needed supplies
• Creates an exciting learning environment for a wide range of learners
• Provides student tutoring and/or homework assistance

Requirements

Education & Experience:

• 2 or more years of lead teaching (as the teacher of record) (highly preferred)
• Demonstrated success working with students in an urban, open admissions school
• Extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of subject area
• Experience in an urban, open admissions school
• Experience working with and a deep commitment to at-risk students and families
• Demonstrated record of setting high expectations for students with special needs
