GLIDE is Hiring a Director of Dining Services Near San Francisco, CA

The Director of Dining Service (DDS)will report to the Chief Impact and Strategy Officer and is responsible for the high-level, long-term strategy for GLIDE’s Dining Services programs, as well as the oversight and management of the daily operations of the Daily Free Meals and Community Safety programs. The DDS leads and directs the programs to create and provide a safe, inclusive, responsive, and nutritious dining experience for GLIDE’s diverse community of guests. The DDS directly supervises the Daily Free Meals and Community Safety program managers to ensure the delivery of the highest quality of services. The DDS will actively seek out opportunities to grow the dining services to meet the food security and nutritional needs of our guests at our 330 Ellis location, as well as expand GLIDE’s dining services in new ways across San Francisco.

This position is responsible for the execution and evaluation of existing and new strategic and programmatic initiatives, and works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to refine workflows, policies, and processes to improve operations. The Director will represent GLIDE within greater food security landscape and works collaboratively with other community partners and City departments to positively reflect GLIDE as a leader in the transformation of the food security landscape in San Francisco. 

The ideal candidate is an experienced strategic and innovative thinker who can navigate opportunities, budgets, and partnerships and knows how to work collaboratively internally and externally. The candidate will be thoroughly committed to GLIDE’s strategy and mission. All candidates should have demonstrated leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Regular and predictable attendance is assumed, including some evenings and holidays.

Dining Services management and leadership

  • Direct and lead GLIDE’s Dining Services,including directly managing the Daily Free Meals and Community Safety Managers, to ensure an exceptional experience for GLIDE clients and volunteers.
  • Provide regular,informal and formal feedback on direct report performance and support ongoing growth and development of direct reports and their teams. 
  • Create a work environment recognized for high level of organization, timeliness, cost-effectiveness, accuracy and results; Partner with staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality project and program management. 
  • Represent GLIDE at community functions and organizations and all inter-agency and public levels. Delegate responsibility for attending provider agency meetings and community organization meetings as appropriate. 
  • Oversee and manage annual Meals and CST budgets. Participate in annual budgetary planning meetings as well as regularly scheduled budget reviews. 
  • Embody GLIDE’s core values in the relationships with staff and partners. 
Strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Develop and manage strategic and annual plans for GLIDE’s dining services, including setting and meeting KPI targets. 
  • Develop and manage workplans to effectively implement strategy. Delegate key initiatives to management team and hold relevant staff members accountable for execution. Identify bottlenecks/risks to implementation and soliciting needed support or resources from Board, Senior Leadership Team, or other departments. 
  • Analyze data regularly in partnership with Center for Applied Learning and Impact to understand overall success of program performance against established KPIs.
  • Report on strategic implementation progress to the Senior Leadership Team on a regular basis. 
Cross-organizational collaboration
  • Manage cross-team collaboration and interdependencies, particularly with all of GLIDE’s Divisions, Center for Applied Learning and Impact,Marketing and Communications, Fund Development, Finance and Operations Facilities, Fleet and IT)to meet the needs of Dining Services and visa versa. 
  • Partner with Contracts and Grants team to maintain existing government contracts and private funding support. Work with fund development to develop new funding opportunities.
  • Lead meetings with Meals and CST core teams to coordinate upcoming program and organizational needs and necessary support and receive updates on ongoing progress.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coach direct reports regarding goals, strategy, performance, and problem resolution. Consistently communicate expectations through regular feedback and performance evaluations. 
  • Partner with HR and Learning & Development teams to ensure the development of staff by growing and investing in each person's knowledge, skills and abilities. 
  • Work with HR to recruit, hire and train management personnel at the VP level and below to provide direction to CEV. Participate in interviews and approve hiring of coordinators, etc., with input of other mid-management. 
  • Work with HR to resolve personnel issues in accordance with GLIDE’s policies and procedures. 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Advanced degree in relevant field desired. 7 years’ experience in a related position, preferably leading dining services in a social service agency, institutional setting or non-profit organization or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience designing and managing workforce development programs a plus.
  • Exceptional history of strategic planning, decision making and implementation in an organization of similar size and scope. 
  • Experience accurately developing and managing an annual operating budget < $3.5m.
  • Understanding and appreciation of strategic philanthropy and the ability to work collaboratively with funders. Understanding and appreciation of the volunteer-professional partnership. 
  • Experience working in a community-based social service agency with oppressed, marginalized, and homeless populations.
