Director of Graduate Career Services
Job Summary:
The Director of Graduate Career Services provides strategic leadership for developing, implementing, and evaluating recruiting systems, programs, and events for graduate students in the School of Management.
Under the general supervision and direction of the Senior Director of Student Success & Engagement, the Director of Graduate Career Services will advise and educate students on career-related matters by developing relationships that support the unique needs of their career search strategies. In an effort to maximize career outcomes for our diverse students, this position focuses on talent development, employer partnerships in regions and industries that align with students' career interests.
The Director provides School of Management (SOM) graduate students - full-time and working professional (part-time) across distinctive programs - with a comprehensive range of career planning and job search opportunities, including research and development of job search strategies for students who are using their graduate degrees to achieve domestic and international career goals. The Director also assists the creation of new and existing career workshops/panels that are relevant across all graduate programs.

Primary Job Responsibilities
Student Career Support
  • Works with students to link them to professionals in particular industries through alumni contacts and relationships.
  • Identifies emerging trends and content relevant to students and their domestic/international job search.
  • Advises students seeking opportunities in and outside of their home country on the job search and overall career planning process, particularly regarding self-assessment for opportunities and networking.
  • Works with the Student Success & Engagement team on all events, orientations, and professional development workshops from admission to graduation.
  • Coordinates with the school's External Relations unit and other university offices (e.g., Development and Office of Marketing & Communication) in order to:
    • Grow and cultivate relationships (locally and globally) with existing employer contacts and new and external partners.
    • Identify local partners offering experiential learning opportunities such as internships and practicums that align with programmatic requirements.
    • Bring recruiters to campus and company visits.
    • Shares success stories and testimonials as appropriate for publication and recruitment
  • Addresses cross-cultural, verbal and writing challenges through creative programming and referrals.
  • Works with all technology resources to enhance networking and connections for employers, students, and alumni.
  • Develops and maintains employer recruiting and outreach programs with organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, nationally and key international locations to increase the number and quality of employers, jobs, and internship opportunities for students across the school's graduate programs.
Learning & Development
  • Designs, facilitates, and scales creative and inclusive (local and global) learning experiences, courses, workshops, and events (both virtual and in-person) that align to the USF SOM culture and drive engagement. These courses may include Career Modules in the MBA program and other program-specific workshops, for example.
  • Assesses current offerings and drives continuous improvement and evolution of the career development course/program portfolio based on knowledge of creative solutions that align with the learning behaviors of a global student body.
  • Works to integrate concepts and learning around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion into our trainings, programs, and events.
Administration & Supervisory Role
  • Supervises the Associate Director of Data and Career Services Operations, who is responsible for:
    • Continuously surveying graduates and employers to ensure programs meet or exceed current job market and employer needs.
    • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the reporting mechanism for graduate employment surveys and statistics, internships and employment outcomes.
    • Maintaining CRM database with external contacts and notes.
  • Assists and executes a strategic vision to include determination of strategic priorities, and the implementation of long-term plans and short-term operational plans.
  • Works in a collaborative, open, and transparent manner with other units within the school and the university.
Other Key Job Responsibilities
Content Generation and Social Marketing
  • Support and maintains information for the USF website that contributes to our Career Management website portal.
  • Builds Canvas communications to create awareness of our programs and drive engagement.
  • Continues to post/share career events in online, social forums (primarily LinkedIn).
  • Launches and hosts events and weekly interviews with current students and alumni to promote programs and student/alumni outcomes.
Data and Metrics
  • Helps define success metrics, measure results with post-event surveys, and provide reporting on the impact of career services talent development programs and experiences in coordination with the Associate Director of Data and Career Services Operations.
  • Communicates information regarding career trends and job opportunities to students and alumni in a timely, effective manner.
  • Evaluates information collected for internal/external publication as well as career program planning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Eight-plus years of related experience that includes career services, learning and development and corporate/external relations.
  • Applicants must have a strong equity lens, cultural humility, and a proven record of embracing differences and creating a safe inclusive space and working environments that would support USF's Jesuit mission.
  • A strong desire to work with students is critical as well as the demonstrated ability to develop external partnerships with target employers and organizations.
  • Knowledge of business and academic environments and how the two interrelate.
  • Significant recruiting and career management external relations work is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Handshake, Vmock and Canvas a plus
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and Google Docs/Sheets
