Department Name: International Student Services

Position Reports To: Director of International Student Services. (In the Interim: Associate Dean of Students)

FLSA STATUS: Salaried

Salary Range: $65,000 to $68,000

Benefits: The University's comprehensive benefits program

Days & Hours: Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Standard work schedule is 9:00 am to 5:30 PM, may be adjusted. Flexible schedule may require evening and weekend hours during peak periods.

Location: In person at the San Francisco campus.

BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:

The Assistant Director of International Student Services provides immigration and international student services assistance and programming to GGU students from admission through commencement and post-graduation as needed. Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and ensures compliance with SEVIS as well as federal and university regulations and requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in the U.S. Government’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) for the University.
  • Assists PDSO and RO with federal requirements and program management for SEVIS and our F-1 and J-1 Exchange Visitor programs to ensure compliance.
  • Provide immigration and visa-related assistance to the GGU Law School for the J-1 Visiting Scholar Program and F-1 international students.
  • Issues immigration documents - Initial I-20 and DS-2019 - for GGU F-1 and J-1 students and scholars using SEVIS.
  • Defers SEVIS records of initial GGU Students who have been deferred admission and cancels SEVIS records of initial GGU Students who fail to report, are no longer planning to attend or no longer meet the requirements of their status.
  • Advises and assists GGU international students with F-1/J-1 procedures including maintaining immigration status, employment authorizations, advanced travel advice, program transfers, extensions, and terminations. Processes and maintains appropriate documentation for obtaining J-1, and F-1visa status for international students and scholars and their dependents, as needed.
  • Ensures adherence to campus and Federal immigration guidelines for the sponsorship of non-immigrant visas. Researches, interprets and applies Federal and University regulations and policies related to international student sponsorship.
  • Updates and monitors multiple integrated online systems including Salesforce, Recruit and SEVIS to ensure immigration status compliance.
  • Monitors SEVIS alerts and addresses issues directly or in conjunction with Division of Student Success team members.
  • Reviews immigration documents to ensure data is correct and validates records in SEVIS for incoming F-1 and J-1 students/scholars.
  • Advises F-1 students with employment authorizations, OPT and STEM OPT, and assists them with corresponding actions of their SEVIS records.
  • Assists the Division of Student Success to create and implement, improve, and maintain new and existing in-person and online training workshops, events, and activities aimed at GGU international students and scholars.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Liaison:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to international students and exchange visitors.
  • Coordinate with the departments across the University to ensure accurate information is shared.
  • Provides advice to university academic departments and administrative offices on policies and procedures pertaining to the international population.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely processing of student requests in accordance with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, & Department of Labor regulations/policies.

Qualifications


  • Education requirement:

    • Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree).

  • Years of experience:

    • Two to three years of full-time administrative experience and/or experience working in an educational environment.

  • Direct job-related requirements:

    • One (1) year of experience as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) is preferred

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Legal Permanent Resident per federal regulations.

  • Skills and abilities:

    • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
