Job Overview
The Assistant Director in Residential Living , as a member of the Residential Living Director staff, provides direct supervision to five masters-level professional Community Directors, and indirect supervision up to 35 resident assistants in a residential area focused on upper-class residential students.
In partnership with their staff, they oversee the educational and community development efforts of their residential areas while providing leadership by setting goals, partnering with staff and community stakeholders in the promotion of student formation, and advancing the mission of Residential Living.
The Assistant Director supports the safety net functions of Residential Living and encourages community ownership by administering the Code of Student Conduct.
As well, they chair one departmental committee and is responsible for overseeing the Living Learning Community program; and addresses student and parent concerns through proactive problem solving.
Work Interactions
Reporting to an Associate Director in Residential Education, the Assistant Director in Residential Living , as an active member of the Office of Residential Living director team, is primarily responsible for administering the residential program for one residential area housing up to 2,500 residents.
Assistant Directors may supervise up to 5 Professional Staff members and indirectly supervise 35 student staff members working in the residence halls.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • A completed Master's degree - preferably in the area of Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or Social Work
  • 3 to 5 years of previous full-time professional experience in the field of Residential Living
  • A thorough understanding of and commitment to the work of Residential Living, as well as the education and character development of college students
  • Demonstrated experience in the areas of leadership, supervision, professional development, administrative skills, social justice & inclusion, community development, educational engagement, and emergency response
  • Ability to manage stress, conflict and frustration constructively; and to demonstrate a positive attitude
  • Ability to identify, define and apply creative and original approaches to resolve issues, and to use sound judgment based on training and departmental policies and protocol
  • Awareness and understanding of the Jesuit values and the ability to conceptualize them in the application of this role
