Galvanize Climate Solutions is Hiring a HR Associate Near San Francisco, CA

About Galvanize Climate Solutions

Galvanize Climate Solutions (“Galvanize”) is a climate-focused global investment firm delivering capital and expertise to accelerate climate solutions. Founded by Katie Hall and Tom Steyer, Galvanize invests across asset classes including venture capital and growth equity, public equities, and real estate. We integrate expertise across investment, climate impact, measurement, market development, talent, technology, and policy with the aim of driving material climate impact and creating long-term value for our investors.

Role

Galvanize’s HR team is entrusted with the responsibility to attract, retain, and reward the world class talent without whom our mission could not be achieved. We take particular pride in embodying our cultural values of “Bold Action Paired With Uncompromising Excellence” and “Respect For All” (although of course we do our best to role model all five of our cultural values, day in and day out!) As our ~60 person organization grows increasingly complex in terms of the number of funds and office locations supported, we need a proven, hands-on Associate who enjoys HR Operations focused work and building and iterating upon solutions for core HR needs such as benefits, payroll and employee engagement.
This opportunity will appeal to those who thrive in dynamic, growth-oriented, fast-paced environments, who want to apply their professional experiences and skills to addressing the climate crisis, and who enjoy learning new things (including building new relationships) quickly. As Galvanize continues to grow in organizational scale and complexity, there will be increased demands placed on the HR function and therefore expected growth in this seat.

The Associate will report to the Head of HR. You will be expected to often act independently and with minimal supervision, but know that you have a highly experienced platform operations team across Legal and Compliance, Finance, IT, and Administrative Services to support and collaborate with you. This position is based in our San Francisco (Financial District) office but may involve some travel to New York and other locations. The Associate is expected to be in the office Monday through Thursday, but there will be a high degree of flexibility within that schedule as well as a need to function across multiple time zones.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessment of current HR systems and provide recommendations for enhancements
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires, including paperwork, orientation sessions, and introduction to company policies
  • Assist in offboarding activities, ensuring a smooth transition for departing employees
  • Assist in the development, implementation and administration of talent review processes
  • Assist in benefits administration, responding to employee inquiries and supporting open enrollment processes
  • Create and analyze HR metrics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and key performance indicators
  • Accurately and efficiently respond to ad hoc HR data requests (e.g., diversity questionnaires from investors) and support ongoing data-base processes (e.g., monthly org chart updates).

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • 3-5 years of HR generalist/operations/compensation experience
  • At least 2 years of work experience in an investment firm (preferred), investment banking, or strategy consulting
  • Experience with execution of talent development processes such as reviews and promotions
  • Advanced (and current) user of at least two HR tech solutions such Bamboo, Culture Amp, Paychex, etc
  • Enthusiastic learner that is a self starter and can thrive in ambiguity
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service mindset
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment but has the ability to work independently with limited oversight
  • Crisp oral and written communication skills, including in a variety of formats from email to Google Docs to PowerPoint slides, and the ability to communicate and persuade inside and outside of the People function
  • Advanced level Excel or Google Sheets skills (e.g., pivot tables, LOOKUP function) to be able to efficiently and accurately manage ongoing and ad-hoc data requests
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle confidential information
  • Authentic interest in accelerating climate solutions through finance (investing)
  • Bachelor’s degree

Galvanize will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records, consistent with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary pay band is $125,000 - $150,000. Note that salary pay bands reflect a wide range of experience levels, and are used for both internal incumbents and new hires.
  • Total cash compensation will also include an annual discretionary bonus

  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • 25 days of PTO including vacation, personal days, or sick leave
  • Monthly wellness benefit that covers a broad range of activities

  • Annual stipend for employer-sponsored professional development opportunities
Galvanize is committed to recruiting, engaging, and retaining talent that is diverse across all dimensions. We will apply our team’s different experiences, backgrounds, and viewpoints to drive better decision making in advance of scaling vital and urgent climate solutions. Consideration of the equitable distribution of global climate transition impacts and benefits, will be a core tenet of our decision-making and organization. This consideration guides Galvanize’s culture, structure, investment strategy, and advocacy efforts.
