Summary

The Associate Nurse Manager reports directly to the Nurse Manager and oversees daily operations of assigned shift ensuring proper care is provided to all patients. The Associate Nurse Manager is accountable to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical and support staff, and appropriate resource and service management related to patient care on assigned shift. The Associate Nurse Manager must also ensure services and care are provided abiding by the policies and procedures of the organization, demonstrate fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Associate Nurse Manager plays a crucial role in assisting the Nurse Manager with strategic operations of the unit, conducting staff meetings, and all other responsibilities. The Associate Nurse Manager is knowledgeable of hospital policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and patient care standards.

Responsibilities

Strategic Vision:

  • Collaborates with Nurse Manager and leadership to support organizational mission, vision, and values.
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality service and strategic initiatives.

People Leadership:

  • Improves employee engagement through collaboration and accountability.
  • Conducts one-on-one meetings, acknowledges team performance, and leads huddles.
  • Actively involved in LEAN/process improvement workgroups.

Service Excellence:

  • Utilizes nursing process for highest standard of care and patient education.
  • Monitors patient care, facilitates staff education, and assumes managerial responsibilities in absence of Nurse Manager.

Organizational Impact:

  • Collaborates on short and long-term goals aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Develops positive relationships with providers and acts as resource for staff.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyzes healthcare trends, suggests improvements, and supports ongoing quality and performance metrics.

Operational Excellence:

  • Participates in budgetary planning and maintains monthly budget.
  • Manages staffing based on patient care needs and workforce targets.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational policies and procedures.

Experience

Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. Management experience is strongly preferred.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.

Credentials

Valid Florida RN license is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements - Job function requires frequent sitting, standing or walking for extended period of time. Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. Environmental Conditions - Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
