DoSomething.org is a twenty-nine year old nonprofit fueling young people to change the world.

We have mobilized millions of DoSomething.org members to clothe young people in homeless shelters, clean up 3.7 million cigarette butts from the streets, run the largest youth-led sports equipment drive, and registered over 350,000 young people to vote since 2018!

THE POSITION

DoSomething seeks a creative Product Designer who can enable the programming and experiences we deliver to “break the 4th wall” of place, space and community interaction. 

The Product Designer will lead visual design across technologies and tools with an eye on the ever-shifting landscape of how and where young people engage through technology. They will utilize member-centered design, including close collaboration with young people, to realize final design products.

As a result, the Product Designer will play a key role in fueling DoSomething’s millions of youth members to take action to address the most pressing issues facing their world. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Visualizing the Member Journey (50%) Assess the current member journey, develop the future member journey, and align the new member journey to place, space and technology. Create concepts and full-color designs that can be tested with members, and utilized by the Product and Engineering team to implement. 

• Own the visual design across digital modalities, from early sketches to final, using high-quality wireframes, membership flows, full-color designs, and/or other prototypes.
• Partner across the organization to understand our member journey and stakeholder needs; apply a lean workflow to define phased design solutions.
• Support discovery activities such as competitive research, user interviews, and journey mapping.
• Collaborate with the Director of Product to weave organizational priorities into testable, engineer-ready product designs.
• Illustrate how diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging may be embedded deeply into DoSomething as a product and experience.
• Bridge from web into mobile and other form factors; concept big-bet mobilizations across media platforms (e.g., gaming, social/interaction, etc). 

Extend the DoSomething brand to new spaces (25%). Explore our current brand and brand extension into the web, and partner with our Communications and Marketing team to evolve our brand. Apply our brand evolution to web and other technologies and ensure we’re adhering to brand guidelines as we build our future member journey. 

• In partnership with Communications & Marketing, build and maintain brand guideline extensions for applicable tools and technologies. 
• Extend and enforce the evolution of the DoSomething brand to suit multiple technologies; for example, web, app, virtual reality and/or other engagement modalities.
• Embed diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into HX design through presentations, publications and/or other venues.

Engage young people as authors of their change (25%). Ensure young people are front-and-center in the evolution of DoSomething, and the DoSomething member experience. 

• Elevate the “art of social activism” to inspire - and fuel - young people; celebrate member-created content as homage to change.
• Adopt and pursue a human-centered design process and serve as an internal voice for our members. 
• Support product design and HX workshops with Product and Programming collaborators. Test concepts and full-color designs directly with our membership.

About You

• 5 years of product design, HX design, and/or visual design experience, ideally involving teen and/or young-adult-focused products and/or technologies. 
• A portfolio that demonstrates human-centered designs for several different kinds of products and/or technologies. 
• Experience with design tools (Figma and Lucid are our primary tools).
• Strong understanding of how diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are centered within HX design. 
• Strong understanding of responsive design and technology design systems.

How long do we retain this data?

• DoSomething will retain candidate profiles for 3 years.
• Annually on August 1, candidate profiles from 3 years prior will be entirely deleted from our system.

Is your data secure?

• JazzHR maintains secure job board pages. Job boards will default to HTTPS. Additionally, if we were to terminate our contract with JazzHR our candidate data is deleted from JazzHR’s systems in accordance with JazzHR’s Terms of Service.
