DON is a dynamic group of non-profit and for-profit entities, centered around the core non-profit Disability Options Network (DON). DON companies work in disability rights advocacy, in-home non-medical personal care, affordable housing construction, and economic development initiatives. Headquartered in New Castle, PA, DON is seeking a candidate able to support the diverse human resource needs for all DON companies and programs.
DON seeks a Director of Human Resources (HR Director) who will serve as the head of the HR function and as a key business partner and peer to the management team in leading and creating initiatives, systems, and best practices to recruit, develop, and train a diverse and high-performing workforce. The HR Director will play a key role in building and supporting an organizational culture that supports the advancement of our mission and strategic plans.
Job Details:
  • In this executive role, the HR Director will help lead and develop a plan for staffing and talent strategy, internal communication processes, performance management, and leadership and professional development. The HR Director will review and refresh the core human resource functions including hiring processes, onboarding, and performance management. After assessing DON’s compensation policies and benefits package, the HR Director will work with management to make changes as needed. Evaluating current and building new HR systems will also be necessary. Additionally, the HR Director will drive a strategy to support DON’s efforts to attract, develop, and retain a diverse workforce and encourage innovation, learning, and cross-cultural collaboration.
  • Generally has 5-7 years of HR experience in a business-facing role.
  • People-focused, a team-builder, and a creative force with a strong ability to recruit.
  • Forward-thinking, open-minded, with a desire to impact change.
  • Experience coaching managers on pay planning, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Able to demonstrate fundamental cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to guide or direct others through action or influence.
  • A successful candidate must also have the ability to understand issues impacting the business unit and company.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Writes, revises, edits, and proofreads company policies and procedures and related documents as needed.
  • Leads annual processes related to talent management, performance management and salary reviews.
  • Other required skills include a strong business understanding, basic organizational consulting skills and strong analytical and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Other duties as assigned.
