POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This person will be in a high-profile position within the accounting department and be responsible for many of our technical accounting areas, reporting directly to the Director of Accounting. The role creates value for Company and its stakeholders, including investors, lenders and regulators, through the oversight of the accurate and efficient preparation of the Company’s accounting records. This person will also be critical in the effective implementation of various accounting policies and SOX processes to provide Management with the necessary information to make the best decision for the business.
To successfully fulfil the position’s responsibilities, the Senior Accountant will work with professionals in departments throughout the Company and engage with various external parties and subject matter experts. The Senior Accountant must be detail oriented, organized and possess technical competence (i.e. able to perform accounting research and oversee the accurate preparation of accounting records for Auditors and similar parties).
- Derivatives
- Borrowings and financing activity
- Asset retirement obligations
- Leases
- IFRS to GAAP conversion
- Other transactional income/expense items
- Prepare/Review designated Controller Reports & Roll-forward schedules
- Support the annual audit and help ensure SOX compliance in designated areas of responsibility
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum three (3) years combined public accounting and corporate technical accounting experience (i.e., familiarity with GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Master’s degree preferred
- CPA, preferred
- Attention to detail
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Strong time management and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Strong computer application skills such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
- Must be able to multi-task and balance multiple high priority tasks
- Strong knowledge of internal control over financial reporting and the requirements customary for public companies
- Knowledge of the oil and gas industry
