Duties

This position is being announced concurrently under Delegated Examining Plan (DE) procedures. Please review vacancy announcement number IHS-24-PI-12372806-DE; for eligibility requirements. NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.

* Provides a variety of clinical laboratory services by processing patient specimens in the Specimen Collection/Processing section, and performing standardized tests and examinations in the Chemistry, Urinalysis, Hematology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank sections.

* Performs automated and somewhat manual procedures as requested by medical providers for use in clinical diagnosis, patient screening, monitoring patient therapy and status and other authorized purposes.

* Operates and maintains laboratory equipment ranging from simple to highly complex depending upon availability.

* Perform and document quality control procedures as defined in policy and procedure manuals.

* Assist senior level Medical Technologists in maintaining the Continued Quality Improvement Program.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0645-06:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks. Examples Include: A working knowledge of the methods, techniques and practices appropriate to medical technology and their practical application to clinical laboratory work. Skill in calibrating and operating analytical instruments sufficient to independently perform recurring tests and analyses. Understanding of related disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, physiology anatomy and their relationship to medical technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0645-07:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Use of laboratory manuals regarding techniques, procedures, reagents, stains, controls, normal values, etc. setting up collection of blood and other specimens.

Time In Grade

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
