Cy-Fair FD is Hiring a Marketing Coordinator Near Houston, TX

Cy-Fair Fire Department is looking to hire a Marketing Coordinator for our growing team.

Objectives

The Cy-Fair Fire Department (CFFD) shall define the position, duties, and minimum requirements for each rank in the Department.

Title: Marketing Coordinator

Selection: Appointed by the Fire Chief

Reports to: Director of Marketing and Community Outreach

Positions Supervised: N/A

To establish a guideline for the Department’s flow of information between the Department, the news media, and the general public.

Definitions

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA): The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law requiring national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge.
  • Open Meetings Act (OMA): The Open Meetings Act (the “Act”) was adopted to help make governmental decision-making accessible to the public. It requires meetings of governmental bodies to be open to the public, except for expressly authorized closed sessions, and to be preceded by public notice of the time, place, and subject matter of the meeting.
  • Person-First Language: Person-first language was written into law in the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (1997). Person-first language aims to avoid language that dehumanizes or stigmatizes people. Person- first language is a best practice when writing about people who have defined diseases, such as “children with epilepsy” or “men with diabetes.” It is also best when writing about people with mental health disorders, such as “people with schizophrenia” or “women with bipolar disorder.”
  • Public Information Act (PIA): The Public Information Act provides a mechanism for citizens to inspect or copy government records. It also provides that governmental bodies may withhold government records from the public in specific instances.

Responsibilities

Essential Behavioral Expectations

  • All personnel are expected to use professional courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment when engaging in any contact with co-workers, members of the public, vendors, visitors, and/or other personnel.
  • Personnel are also responsible for, but not limited to, the following behavioral expectations: maintaining confidentiality of business knowledge and personnel information, maintaining professional relationships while engaging in job-related tasks, cooperating with others to resolve conflict and achieve goals, and maintaining a pleasant attitude while leaving personal business or issues/problems outside the workplace.
  • Maintain the physical and mental health necessary to perform assigned duties
  • Physical Demands:
    • The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met or are encountered by a member to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
      • Ability to work in a standard office environment and to travel to different sites and locations as needed. This classification entails frequent walking, standing, lifting, and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of tools and equipment requiring coordination and manipulation skills.
      • This position may require working near emergencies in all weather extremes.
      • This position may require prolonged walking, standing, or sitting periods.
  • The Marketing Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the Director of Marketing and Community Relations in the development and execution of communication strategies and campaigns for the Cy-Fair Fire Department. The Marketing Coordinator will collaborate to create consistent brand representation campaigns on all social media platform communications involving the organization, including developing and implementing its online presence strategy.

Required Experience and/or Qualifications:

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge

  • Advanced business writing, including English usage, grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Understand the concepts and use of People-First language in writing and speech while ensuring content is accessible to people with disabilities and that social media campaigns are inclusive and reach diverse demographics.
  • Advanced navigation of Social Media Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn with the ability to tailor content for each platform’s audience and feature.
  • Modern business computer applications, software, and equipment, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Pro, Canva, and Project Management Tools.
  • Provide interpretation of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and codes related to topics including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Public Information Act (PIA), and Open Meetings Act (OMA) and it relates to Marketing and Social Media relations.
  • Provides logistical support for events and campaigns such as set-up, registration, or coordination of materials.
  • Techniques for collaborating timely and effective communication with governmental agencies, community groups, employee representatives, and other professional organizations on behalf of the Office of the Fire Chief.

Abilities

  • Strong ability to juggle competing, time-sensitive priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ensuring that the user experience on social media platforms provides current and relevant information in a seamless and user-friendly way, which may include familiarity with responsive design and mobile optimization.
  • Engages stakeholders and keeps them informed of events in the Department.
  • Must be available to work nights or weekends.
  • Must be able to be on-call while supporting 24-hour operations.
  • May handle social media responses to audiences; compose and distribute press releases as needed.
  • Must be able to work independently and under short-fused deadlines to support the fire department's communication needs.
  • Assist with research for communications budget information applicable to social media platforms for presentation to the Marketing and Communications Director.

Education/Degrees:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a major study in Marketing, Business, Communications, or Graphic Design.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a full-time communications, marketing, or public relations professional specializing in Digital Content Creation. Candidate should demonstrate success in external engagement through metrics.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas, with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have a current CPR card from the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain it within 30 days.
  • Complete NIMS (ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400, ICS-700, and ICS-800)

Guidelines

  • Essential Job Functions – Performs all work duties and activities following Department Standard Operating Guidelines, including Bulletins, Memos, Safety guidelines, Personnel Handbook, and Chief’s Orders.
    • Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Increase awareness and develop Department image by developing and executing effective communication and media relations programs.
    • Develop a Social Media marketing communications plan, including strategy, goals, budget, and tactics.
    • Monitor, analyze, and communicate social media analytics results monthly.
    • Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising continually.
    • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting the community and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategies.
    • Build relationships with community and business leaders to grow Department awareness.
    • Performs required duties under the Department’s disaster response plan.
    • Performs other duties as required.
  • The Department shall define the position, duties, and minimum requirements for each rank in the Department. The Marketing Coordinator will directly serve the Office of the Fire Chief and is responsible for developing and executing the department’s social media strategy to maximize agency branding and effectively engage the communities it serves. This position requires considerable tact and discretion. There may be regular access to confidential material, which, if revealed, may be detrimental to the Department’s interest. The level of responsibility is such that errors may be serious and could have an adverse impact on the administration of the Department and the community it serves.

Cy-Fair FD has the right to consider any combination of education and experience in determining an individual’s qualification for this position.

Compensation & Benefits will be determined by Harris County ESD No. 9 Commissioners and the Cy-Fair Fire Department.

Pay Rate: $26.55/hourly

Retirement:

  • TCDRS 7% employee contribution, 14% employer contribution
  • 457b Voluntary retirement account, Department contribution matches up to 3%

Insurance:

  • Medical benefits are offered thru Blue Cross Blue Shield.
  • HSA Plan $5000: The CFFD covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% for family. The
  • department makes a quarterly contribution towards the HSA account.
  • Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance.
  • The CFFD covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% for family for dental and vision.
  • The CFFD pays 100% of the premiums for Short Term Disability.
  • The CFFD pays 100% of the premiums for Long Term Disability.
  • The CFFD pays 100% of the premiums for a $50,000 Life Insurance policy.

Supplemental Insurance:

  • Aflac is available with 100% being paid by the employee.
  • Additional Life insurance is available with 100% being paid by the employee.
