CSTA is Hiring a Remote Grants & Compliance Manager

Who We Are: The Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA)

Hello, World! CSTA is a non-profit membership organization that supports and promotes the teaching of computer science, providing opportunities for K–12 teachers and their students to better understand computer science and to more successfully prepare themselves to teach and learn. We are fully remote with engaged teammates spread from California to Massachusetts and we blend our collective experience gained from our past roles in non-profits, K-12 schools, higher education, and hospitality to create high-quality teaching and learning experiences for teachers worldwide.

Who We Are Looking For: An Organized, Detail-oriented, Compliance-focused and Analytical

CSTA is looking for a highly organized, detail oriented Grants Manager to manage the life cycle of government grant and sponsored project administration. The Grants Manager will work closely in providing grant support and compliance with the CFOO, Principal Investigators (PIs) on sponsored projects, and Grant/Sponsored Project Managers.

How You’ll Contribute: Essential Duties and Responsibilities In this role, you will manage all pre-award and post-award activities for government grants, as well as manage all government grant compliance and procedures. In each of these primary focus areas of this role, your day-to-day will include: 

Pre-award Activities

  • Managing a federally-funded grant portfolio of over $20 million 
  • Preparing administrative and business documents for grant and contract proposals; assisting in preparation of grant proposals, renewals and resubmissions of applications
  • Reviewing all contracts, awards, and agreements such as non-disclosure, for government contracts, grants, and sponsored research. 
  • Preparing all government contracts and agreements for any sponsored research activity and advising PIs of any concerns
  • Leading the government grant proposal team on solicitation and sponsor guidelines to ensure strict adherence to compliance requirements
  • Submitting proposals and applications for government grants on behalf of CSTA as an Authorized Representative
  • Managing various federal entity registration systems to ensure CSTA complies with all registration requirements. 
  • Identifying program announcements and/or solicitations for new government grant funding opportunities.

Post-Award Activities

  • Collaborating with the PI and CFOO to review expenditures and monitor project under/overspending
  • Working jointly with the accounting team for government grant income receivables, journal reconciliations, month-end accounting corrections.
  • Conducting various financial reconciliation processes in collaboration with accounting to ensure grant expenditures are in compliance 
  • Providing PI and/or sponsored project managers with monthly financial reports 
  • Drawing-down and invoicing of grant funds both directly from the federal government and from external partners
  • Leading the yearly single audit process 
  • Assisting PI in formal re-budgeting and submission for approval.
  • Providing data needed for the preparation of interim and final financial reports, along with any other progress reports
  • Participating in all government grant close-out activities
  • Building relationships between CSTA, grants sponsors, and grants partners over the life of government grant awards

Compliance and Procedures

  • Researching and staying up to date with current grant and federal guidelines
  • Analyzing current organization government grant and sponsored research policies and procedures. 
  • Managing effort reporting, and keeping track of records through effort certification process every quarter
  • Advising and training management and colleagues of grant administration policies and procedures, and other related topics

What You Bring to the Table: Experience & Qualifications 

As our ideal candidate, you are passionate about addressing issues of equity in CS education through supporting a strong backend organizational structure at CSTA. To thrive in this role, you ideally have experience supporting maintaining strict compliance with federal funder regulations, experience managing financial reconciliation processes, and an ability to communicate well with others under tight-timeframes.

You also bring some combination of the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with federal grant administration, including pre- and post-award administration
  • Grants.gov, Research.gov, G5/G6 experience
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, and agency policies and procedures that govern grant awardees, OMB Uniform Guidance, and general accounting standards and principles
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to coordinate and be accountable for multiple tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and with a group
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially on virtual interfaces
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite, Slack, and Asana
  • Commitment to engaging in CSTA's efforts towards embracing diversity, being purposefully inclusive, and addressing anti-racism in CS education

Preferred:

  • Experience in advising senior staff on risk and compliance obligations
  • Budget development/review and knowledge of indirect rate structures

In addition, all candidates:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% time within the U.S. and occasionally work outside normal business hours. Travel costs are covered by CSTA.

What We Offer 

As a nonprofit, we strive to be market competitive with similarly sized organizations, and internally fair in our pay practices. The hiring salary range for this role is $80,000 - $85,000 annually. This represents the target offer range given the scope and experience expectations for this role.

In hiring, we are generally open to candidates in a varying range of experiences and levels, and recognize that as a candidate you may be less experienced or more senior than this job description as posted. If that's the case, an updated salary range will be shared with you if you move forward in our hiring process.

  • Step 2: We’ll schedule a virtual interview loop with the 3-4 team members you will work most closely with (3 hours total).
