STATEMENT OF DUTIES

General Statement Of Duties:
This classification is responsible for design, implementation, and administration of business intelligence systems for the Colorado Judicial Department. Designs and creates data models, data marts and data stores using data modeling and extract, transform and load (ETL) tools. Produces business intelligence solutions for the Department and external stakeholders.

Distinguishing Factors:
The Business Intelligence Developer is distinguished from other classifications by leading the technical implementation of the Department’s Business Intelligence (BI) program within the Information Technology Services Division (ITS). Designs and builds the most complex solutions to meet BI needs. This position reports to the Manager of Data Analytics/QA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Directs, organizes, trains and leads implementation of data warehouse and reporting technologies.
Works with end users to identify, create, and deliver reports and visualizations according to specifications.
Communicates technical concepts in a user-friendly manner.
Develops the data warehouse architecture and physical implementation standards.
Installs, patches, configures, monitors, tunes, and administers BI infrastructure, applications and related tools.
Design, create and tune physical database objects (tables, views, indexes) to support logical and dimensional models. Maintains integrity of the database.
Implements best practices for data governance, database structures, principles, and standards
Implements efficient data marts using the appropriate design models.
Diagnoses and resolves data warehouse access and performance issues.
Designs, codes, tests, and documents all new or modified BI systems, applications, and programs.
Creates, organizes, and maintains metadata layer and data models.
Builds and maintains in-memory data cubes.
Develops web interfaces, graphs, and portals for components interacting with data warehouse.
Produces ETL design guidelines to ensure a manageable ETL infrastructure for the BI systems.
Troubleshoots BI systems; tunes these applications as necessary.
Prioritizes of business intelligence and reporting requests.
Attends meetings and trainings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONT.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
No formal supervisory responsibility. Responsibility for one's own work product and work within a unit performing similar functions. May provide functional guidance to less knowledgeable or experienced coworkers. This may include problem solving, providing on the job training and reviewing work of others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education:
Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in business intelligence software, SQL or DB2 relational database design. Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education. Experience with the court and probation system, and visualization and reporting tools (such as IBM Cognos and Microsoft PowerBI) is strongly preferred.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands and fingers to perform repetitive motions; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
Frequently handles emergency or crisis situations and may be subject to varying and unpredictable situations and work hours. The employee is subject to frequent interruptions, multiple calls and inquiries. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Evening and weekend work may be required to support software application deployments. Occasional travel may be required.
