Job Title Parks Laborer I

FLSA Status Non-Exempt

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Education High School diploma or GED.

Experience No previous experience is required.

Certifications None

Licensing Must posses a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license with clear driving record.

Summary

The Parks Laborer I will perform various park maintenance tasks including maintaining irrigation systems, turf management, and maintaining athletic activity areas. Responsible for adhering to maintenance and safety standards that strengthen the community image and sense of place in all City Parks. The Parks Laborer I employee will be committed to professional development in parks maintenance.

Essential Job Functions

· Turf management. Mowing, aerating, fertilizing, weedeating, and trimming hedges etc.

· Cleaning. Clean, sanitize, and pick up litter in restrooms. Pick trash up at all parks, parking lots, and other areas. Change trash liners. Restock supplies.

· Performs equipment and vehicle inspections. Operates and/or drives a variety of light equipment as directed. Drives to and from work locations.

· Facilities maintenance. Loading, unloading, and assembly of office furniture.

· Maintains irrigation systems, including timers, sprinkler heads, main lines, audits, clock programing and general maintenance repairs.

· Maintains athletic activity areas (dragging, nail dragging, prepping), maintain fences, benches, drinking fountains, sidewalks, restrooms and general repairs.

· Maintains park by blowing, trash pick-up, painting, graffiti and power washing facilities.

· Maintains and repairs playground equipment (including safety checks).

· Inspects and repairs tennis and basketball courts (including safety checks).

· Opens and locks public facilities as directed.

Ancillary Job Functions

· Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

· Knowledge of park maintenance policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of and ability to use tools and landscaping equipment used in parks and grounds maintenance.

· Ability to use tape measure and other maintenance tools.

· Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

· Knowledge of basic math and its applications.

· Ability to operate light equipment.

Equipment tools commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Zero turn, weedeater, hand tools, mini excavator

Work Environment or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

· May be required to work in high or dangerous places.

· May often be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma.

· Work requires the ability to drive and/or operate mechanical equipment

· Work requires visual acuity of 20 feet or more, 20 inches or less, three dimensional vision, precise hand eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

· Must be able to lift 60 or more pounds.

· Participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System in which the employee contributes 6% and the city matches 2:1
