Position Summary:

At Children’s Aid, we believe that all kids have limitless potential. The Community School Director will work to create and strengthen programs at Charles Drew Campus and supervise the staff to ensure high quality data driven programming. The Community School Director is responsible for working with all of the principals, and other members of the school leadership team in the building to ensure that the barriers to learning that may exist for students are eliminated and/or significantly reduced. The Community School Director will supervise and work closely with the Beacon Director to build strong after school programming aligned school’s learning goals. As an employee of Children’s Aid working at the Charles Drew Campus, the Community School Director will report to the Deputy Director overseeing community schools in the Bronx.

Responsibilities:

Community School Directors will be expected to do the following:

  • Develop a clear data-driven year-long plan for the coordination and delivery of services and supports to students built in collaboration with the Principals and other key stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain a strong partnership with the Principals and other stakeholders.
  • Hire and supervise all staff responsible for the delivery of during and out-of-school time programming and other services.
  • Ensure all programs and services operate in compliance with agency and DOE policies and procedures and contractual requirements.
  • Lead all Community School initiatives including attendance improvement, resource coordination, family engagement and behavioral and family support services.
  • Complete any and all monthly and quarterly reports for the agency, contract agencies and funding sources including attendance and participation reports.
  • Be responsible for all administrative and fiscal matters (hiring, payroll, budget).
  • Manage all contract budgets and attend regular budget meetings to discuss spending, projected spending and to remain in compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with other agency and Youth Division programs.
  • Effectively lead Attendance Improvement initiatives in partnership with the principal and other key staff members.
  • Support school culture-building as a leadership team member and member of the school community.
  • Form partnerships with agencies in the community that enrich the school environment and will provide services for children and families: mental health, afterschool, summer camps, arts, sports, health/dental, adult programs, mentoring, etc.
  • Create, develop and maintain relationships with community partners, key stakeholders, and other important members of the school community.
  • Develop systems to track program progress and evaluate effectiveness of activities, services and supports.
  • Represent the school in community meetings and events
  • Use the tools and resources provided to track student progress around the school’s and Children’s Aid’s goals
  • Work with key staff members to identify and coordinate academic, socio-emotional and health resources for students and their families
  • Participate in on-going training and professional development focused on building restorative, equitable and culturally responsive practices
  • Use the resources available at Children’s Aid to meet the needs of students on a daily basis
  • Plan and deliver special school events
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the Deputy Director or other leaders in the Youth Division

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience working with young people (in-school and/or out-of-school settings)
  • Exceptional leadership skills and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • 3- 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Commitment to professional development
  • A demonstrated goal-orientation and focus on outcomes and results and using data to improve practice
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively work with students who have been traditionally under-served
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work cooperatively with school and Children’s Aid colleagues
  • A thorough understanding of youth development principles and practice
  • A history of service to under-resourced communities
  • Professionalism, sound judgment, foresight and maturity
  • An entrepreneurial spirit which embraces creativity and hard work inherent in a start-up
  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred.
