Medical Assistant (REAP)
Organizational Information
Redwood Empire Addiction Program (REAP) is the clinical arm of Center Point DAAC. We provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to Medi-Cal, Medicare, Kaiser and private-pay clients. MAT refers to a comprehensive approach to substance abuse treatment that combines the use of FDA-approved medications with counseling, behavioral therapies, and support services. While honoring the inherent worth and dignity of every human being. Methadone and Suboxone are the most common medicines currently, but we are looking to expand our offerings. Our work is guided by SAMSHA’s model of Harm Reduction. We strive to maintain client engagement and “provide life-saving tools and information to prevent overdose and infection transmission; improve physical, mental, and social wellbeing; and offer low barrier options for accessing health care services, including substance use and mental health disorder treatment” (https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/harm-reduction). Job brief
The Medical Assistant will work directly with the Deputy Medical Director to assist in Day-to-day operations. The Medical Assistant will act as both a supporting staff and liaison between Administrative and Clinical Staff and Duties to ensure the efficient operation of the medical office. Duties include but are not limited to the scope of patient care management, office organization and communication as they pertain to the following duties. Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and billing and coding for insurance purposes. Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, documenting medical histories, and assisting with any necessary procedures. Assist healthcare providers during examinations and treatments by providing support and ensuring patient comfort. Perform basic laboratory tests such as urinalysis. Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and medical equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Organize NP schedule; book, cancel reschedule appointments
  • Injections, PPd placement, EKG’s, Obtain blood samples
  • Prepare paper charts and briefly review client history as necessary for client appointments
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms and medical instruments, measure and record vital signs, “Room” patients
  • Become CURES delegate and run CURES reports
  • Communicate with drug counselors and other clinic staff on behalf of NP
  • Arrange laboratory tests and other outside services
  • Assist during medical examinations as needed
  • Urine drug testing; Point of Care and preparing samples for outside laboratories
  • Update and file medical records and Perform data entry
  • Answer phone calls
  • Monitor inventory and order supplies
  • Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms Scan, Fax, copy and email documents
  • Other tasks as assigned
SKILLS
  • Able to Read, Write, and Speak English fluently
  • Knowledge of medical office management systems and procedures
  • Ability to read charts and taking vital signs efficiently
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Customer service experience
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to complete tasks in a high quality, accurate and timely manner
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve and ask questions as appropriate
  • Strong knowledge of HIPPA Act and respect for client privacy
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Electronic Health Records
  • Social perceptiveness and service oriented and desire to work in Addiction Medicine
  • Must have the emotional intelligence to communicate with people from all walks of life
  • Certified Medical Assistance
  • Phlebotomy skills a plus
Experience preferred but not required for the right candidate
Job Type: Full-time; Salary: $21.00 - $27.00 per hour
