CDI Engineering Solutions is a multi-disciplinary engineering organization offering a full range of integrated engineering design, project support, procurement and construction management services to the energy and chemicals industries.
The Project Engineering Manager's (PEM) primary responsibilities are for medium and large capital ($100mm ) multi-discipline projects. The PEM ensures all engineering deliverables are following CDI project processes, procedures and in conformance with the established project objectives. Additionally the PEM shall be responsible for making sure that project goals, schedules, budges are met. He/she incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output delivered on time. The PEM is the liaison between Project Management and the Engineering Leads on the project.
Preferred: PE License; 10 years, EPC experience working in the energy, chemicals, refining industry. Experience as the project lead on multi-discipline projects. Experience working with Owner personnel is a plus
During the proposal phase, to work with the proposal manager and the discipline managers to develop strategic execution strategies and manhour estimates, and to assure that all disciplines use a consistent basis (such as project duration, meeting frequency, etc.) to develop the proposals
Assure HVEC utilization is a standard component of all discipline project strategies unless expressly forbidden either by the client or law.
At project award, the person is to work with individual project manager to understand what is required to meet client expectations and the final proposal requirements and then to work with the discipline managers to further develop execution and staffing strategies that satisfy project needs
During project execution, the PEM, as a minimum, will participate in monthly project reviews. However, during execution, the primary role of the PEM is to work with the Project Managers to understand any cost or schedule issues and aide in the mitigation of these issues.
The PEM will also be an integral partner of the PM and the discipline managers in developing responses to significant project changes and to assure all cost and schedule impacts are captured
The PEM will participate in project critiques and will have annual goals aimed at improving multi-discipline project execution, primarily either in discipline interfaces or coordination and alignment between project planning and discipline strategies
Provide coaching and constructive feedback to discipline leads
Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities and Safety in Design; closely observes the practices of all employees involved in the engineering process, as well as training and guiding employees to ensure that safe practices are followed.
Mentors discipline leads
Responsible for working with the discipline managers and project managers to capture and document enhancements to the project work process
Overall responsibility for adherence to quality processes and audits disciplines as required to assure operational excellence, participation in root cause analysis for major quality issues.
Promotes consistency in application of work processes throughout the major project and participates in interdepartmental continuous improvement activities.
10 years of EP or EPC project experience. Solid knowledge of the overall project work process as defined by IPA or PMI, plus knowledge of departmental functions.
PMP certification is a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision depth perception, and ability to focus. Employee must be able to climb ladders as typically found in petrochemical facilities.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to travel to client job-sites, usually involving heavy industrial (chemical) production facilities and access all areas of the facility. Therefore, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and the risk of electric shock. The noise level in workplace can be loud to moderate depending on assignment. Respirator fit testing may be required.
Required: BS in Engineering (or higher) from ABET accredited Institution
