Peer Support Specialist

We are looking for a Peer Support Specialist who can support and assist individuals struggling with mental illness and substance abuse disorders. Individuals in this field should have a strong desire to help others reclaim their lives.

Purpose

  • Engage individuals in their recovery process
  • Provide hope and encouragement to support clients in their recovery
  • Provide opportunities for clients to direct their own recovery process
  • Act as an advocate for the needs of clients
  • Work with clients on a one-to-one basis to support them in setting recovery goals
  • Share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships
  • Offer support to help clients develop the skills they need to facilitate their recovery
  • Promote the use of natural supports and resources within the community
  • Support clients in achieving the resiliency and recovery they want

Responsibilities

  • Complete all required documentation in a timely, legible manner
  • Ensure confidentiality of individual information
  • Assess emergency situations, notify supervisor and/or appropriate personnel of actual and potential issues
  • Maintain a nonjudgmental approach, effective listening, eye contact, professionalism, and positive interactions
  • Assist clients in identifying strengths and readiness to actively pursue recovery goals
  • Provide consistency and support to promote personal progress and accountability

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • 1-2 years of experience
  • Access to transportation
  • National Certified Peer Specialist (NCPS) or equivalent

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • On call

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Required)
  • Peer Support Certificate (Required)

Work Location: Multiple locations
