Better Business Bureau Chicago is Hiring a Staff Accountant Near Chicago, IL

Job Title: Staff Accountant Classification: Exempt

Department: Finance Reports to: Director of Finance

Duties & Responsibilities: include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares first draft of audit documentation
  • Creates monthly financial statement package by assisting the Controller with monthly and annual closing entries
  • Maintains a list of internal inventory and assets
  • Aids Controller with annual budget compilation, monitors allocation of funds within budgetary limitations, and prepares budget variation reports for the review of the Controller
  • Creates ad hoc financial and operational reports, which provides key organizational and departmental performance indicators
  • Using internal software, compiles payroll information and processes semimonthly payroll using Paylocity
  • Reviews and processes employee expense reimbursements according to company policy
  • Follows payroll practices and assists in collaboration with other members of the management team in establishing personnel policies that assures compliance with state and federal regulations, including wages, salaries and benefit regulations.
  • Prepares and submits all annual tax forms for 1099s
  • Processes accounts payable invoices and credit card transactions thru all stages of the process prior to payment
  • Create documented processes to streamline and improve current functions

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Compiling and processing payroll
  • Managing or assisting with annual audit
  • Classifying/coding accounts payable items
  • Proficient with QuickBooks, Excel, Paylocity payroll software a plus.
  • Sense of ownership of tasks, taking accountability for accuracy and completion of the tasks
  • Being proactive with the duties and possessing excellent organizational skills
  • Willingness to work as a team player and support the internal staff as needed
