Baltimore Crisis Response, Inc is Hiring a Peer Recovery Specialist Near Baltimore, MD

Location:

Office, Residential Facility and/or Mobile in Community Setting Baltimore City and Surrounding Communities

Reports To:

LEAD Program Manager

Shift:

Weekdays (Monday-Friday) 10:00 am 6:00 pm

There may be occasional changes in schedule to accommodate time-off requests, and coverage for special events or program specific deadlines.

We will make available easy access to the crisis system with a clearly defined point of entry and 24-hour availability, closing treatment gaps and facilitating access to critical services including post-discharge support.

Whenever possible, we will provide clients with supports to get them through their crisis without the removal from familiar surroundings.

Job Overview:

The primary goal of this position is to assist the LEAD Case Managers, to facilitate, manage and coordinate the linkage of BCRI participants with other service providers, Recovery agencies and institutions. The Peer Recovery Specialist will also provide effective services including advocacy, mentoring, education, support recovery, and engage in ethical responsibility. To support this goal the following objectives/responsibilities are expected:


Essential Functions
:

  • Maintain open, effective and appropriate communication with participants, BCRI staff, management, outside agencies and the public
  • Apply the principles of choice and self-determination when working with participants
  • Empower participants to become self-advocates for their own recovery/wellness
  • Recognize risk factors that may affect the individual’s welfare and safety
  • Maintain documentation and collect data as required
  • Accompany participants to appointments in the community as needed
  • Assist in the completion of client applications for entitlements and other programs as needed.
  • Recognize and use person-centered language when working with participants
  • Adheres to the responsibilities and limits of the role
  • Encourage client participation in other self-help or peer recovery activities.
  • Engage participants to discuss their perception of care.
  • Build relationships with self-help or peer recovery groups in the community.
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary team as an advocate on behalf of the client.
  • Evaluate participant’s satisfaction with their progress toward recovery/wellness goals
  • Arrange safe transportation of participants to approved and appropriate locations.
  • Active participation in the organization’s professional development program which includes regular supervision, clinical training seminars, professional development seminars, utilization of tuition reimbursement and agency sponsored attendance at outside educational activities.
  • Demonstrate adherence to company policies and expectations and behavioral competencies, both explicit and implicit.
  • All tasks, projects, and/or duties as assigned and authorized, which are congruent as determined by Direct Supervisor (or designated delegate) to be congruent with the role.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS


Education:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, Required.


Credentials:

None, Required.

Peer Support Specialist Certification, Preferred.


Experience:

Lived experience with a mental health and/or addition disorder, Required.

Must possess experiential expertise dealing with our focus areas of treatment. Knowledgeable of the integrated services and resources provided by the public behavioral health system in Baltimore City, Required.

Prior experience supporting non-profit operations, Preferred.

Additional:

Valid and unrestricted driver’s license, Required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Products, Preferred.

Physical Demands:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer workstation.

Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching.

Must be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds at times.

Moderate walking, standing, climbing stairs, and sitting.

Transportation of clients and their belongings in agency vehicles.

Minimal support and assistance with client care needs.
