Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk®) is a global provider of process safety and risk management services to companies in the petroleum and chemical industries, as well as engineering and testing services for government agencies and private companies involved with hazardous materials. Utilizing advanced methodologies and proprietary in-house tools, BakerRisk engineers assess the consequences and risks associated with potentially catastrophic events including explosions, fires, and toxic material releases. BakerRisk Structural Engineers design and analyze buildings and other structures subjected to explosion, impact, and other loads from hazardous events.
The Manager of Marketing & Communications (MarComm) is the responsible leader for the proposals/technical writing staff marketing, communications, , working with a global clientele and serving BakerRisk’s multi-national locations. The two main proven skills we are seeking are Leadership, and Proposal experience.
Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities
Full responsibility for the Proposal, Marketing and Communications needs of BakerRisk.
On board and lead a team responsible for three main areas:
Proposals and Technical Writing
- Oversee development and production of strategic/high-value proposals, coordinating marketing and technical teams from initial solicitation to post-award de-briefs.
- Work with remote offices and staff and ensure consistent coverage across time zones and differing work schedules internally and externally.
Communications (Content Development, Digital Media, Graphic Designer/Website, Media/Industry Relations)
- Take an active role in developing metrics that are appropriate for a growing global firm and utilizing them to advance effective growth on a global scale. This will involve digital KPI’s, GA4, etc.
- Lead the execution of digital marketing campaigns, integrating SEO, social media, content marketing, and paid advertising to generate leads and enhance brand visibility aimed specifically at engaging enterprise-level clients.
Industry Outreach (Strategic Accounts, Events & Conferences)
- Lead and direct actions to increase visibility of BakerRisk within the industry via press releases, events, and other platforms.
Required Skills
- 10 years of professional experience in a proposal or marketing role, preferably for an Architectural/Engineering/Construction (AEC) or related industry firm; time-sensitive proposal experience is a must have requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, or adjacent field.
- Fluent in InDesign and Microsoft Office, including Teams. Familiarity with other Adobe Creative Suite software; CRM is a plus.
Critical Experience
- Proven ability shown through progressive roles to develop, mentor, lead and inspire a Marketing and Communications team (Proposals, Industry Outreach, Technical Writing, Document Editing, Communications), with equal ability to work within an historic seller-doer model firm.
- Proven proposal skills, including preparation (internal kick-offs, calendaring, reviews) and presentation (creating compelling and engaging content, design, editing, etc.).
- Possess strong communication skills with a focus on industry and media outreach programs.
- Global experience with an emphasis on cultural sensitivities, time zone awareness, and regional work customs.
- Experience managing significant marketing projects top-to-bottom, working closely with senior staff and leadership on marketing, communications, and business development initiatives.
- Comfortable with reporting analytics and developing key metrics.
- Experience strategically partnering and supporting senior staff on business-critical projects.
- An understanding of website design/analytics is helpful.
- SMPS, AMA, etc or other similar trade associations/credentials is helpful
