Strategic Development Associate

The Strategic Development Associate will help to grow Aypa’s portfolio of stand-alone utility-scale energy storage and renewable hybrid projects by assessing markets, identifying project locations with unique and competitive value propositions, and creating actionable recommendations for securing project sites through greenfield and M&A. This is a high visibility role in a growth organization in a fast-paced industry, with a broad scope that will present opportunities to build expertise at the intersection of commercial strategy and project development.

Responsibilities:

• Gather, organize, and analyze data to anticipate demand for utility-scale energy storage and renewable hybrid projects across different geographies, timelines, and commercial structures;
• Track market developments such as transmission planning processes, interconnection process reforms, new load, and thermal retirements to assess the implications for market entry and siting strategies;
• Monitor customer and competitor activity;
• Develop and apply quantitative metrics to gauge the competitiveness of potential site locations;
• Screen potential site locations for relevant constraints and suitability of available land, including permitting feasibility;
• Coordinate with internal subject matter experts to identify project locations most likely to be successful in targeted markets;
• Identify potential project acquisition targets that are accretive to Aypa’s position in the market;
• Work with the GIS team to implement new functionalities in Aypa’s proprietary mapping software to streamline the siting process;
• Contribute to building tools for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of converting commercial insights into well-positioned project sites;
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in utility-scale renewable energy or energy storage, preferably in a project development or commercial role
• Familiarity with GIS mapping tools
• Passion for learning about the electric power sector and value drivers for utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable projects
• Strong organizational skills and experience using project and task-tracking tools
• High initiative and desire to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment with senior mentorship but limited task-level direction and supervision
• As part of a lean and dynamic team, the candidate must be able to plan, oversee, and personally execute numerous projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and adjust to changing priorities

Compensation and Location:

• Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
• Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience 
• Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on both individual performance as well as the overall success of the business

• Location: Ability to work in the United States is a requirement. Preference for the candidate to be based in Portland, Oregon or Austin, TX; however, workplace location is flexible, provided the candidate can travel as required.
