Purpose

This position reports to the Director of Development at the Blanton Museum of Art. This position will oversee donor stewardship, take a leading role in developing and executing fundraising events and help convey the meaning and impact of philanthropy to Blanton donors. While working to ensure donor engagement, retention, and cultivation, this position broadly supports the museum's operating and capital expense budgets by achieving annual and project based fundraising goals.

Responsibilities

Stewardship

  • Create, engage, and steward patron groups as well as assigned individual prospects and in-kind sponsorships and donations to increase annual giving and reduce expenses.

  • Create a plan for engagement after each event and follow up with attendees in a timely fashion.

Events

  • Manage and execute an approved events calendar working in coordination with vendors, marketing and operations to maximize net revenue. This can include donor events, galas, dinners, board meetings and tours.

Fundraising

  • Work closely with the Director of Development to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate a program of strategic engagement with donors and other key stakeholders to grow the Blanton's base of support and increase annual giving.

  • Actively participate in meeting or exceeding annual departmental revenue goals; responsible for meeting or exceeding individual fundraising goals. Goals will be assigned annually based on business needs of the organization.

Administration

  • Ensure compliance with museum, university and development policies and best practices for all events.

  • Manage hiring and workflow for student intern(s).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Three years of development or related experience with demonstrated success in the creation and implementation of development strategies and specifically with individual giving, and event planning and execution.

  • Familiarity with and contacts in Austin, Texas, and national philanthropic communities is essential, as is art museum experience, knowledge, and passion.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects.

  • Proven project management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

  • Capable of working independently.

  • Experience in developing a strategic development plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources.

  • Proven and measurable track record of successful in-person interactions with prospective donors.

  • Experience in establishing strategies for identifying, qualifying, and cultivating prospective donors.

  • Must be able to travel to visit prospects and donors.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in museum or university setting is highly desirable.

  • Highly organized, self-starting individual who is energetic and dynamic.

  • Possess a solid understanding of supporting technology.

  • Flexible workstyle.

Salary Range

$72,000 plus depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment or hybrid work model.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • Position includes local travel.

  • May remain stationary at workstation for several hours at a time.

  • Work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
