Antelope Valley Medical Center is Hiring a Floor Technician - Environmental Services - Full Time/Nights - Req#1996765255 Near Lancaster, CA

Job Objective:

Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Services or designee, the Floor Technician Specialist is responsible for the overall floor maintenance of hard surface and carpet including but not limited to stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, extraction and bonneting of all areas throughout the campus that includes offices, patient rooms, classrooms, corridors, lobbies, entrances, stairwells, cafeteria, and other public areas. Secondary duties may be assigned on an “as needed” basis such as routine cleaning or any other job duty that is generally performed by the Environmental Services Aide staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Primary Duties-Floor Care & Special Projects

  • Operate specialized power equipment.
  • Obey all safety requirements and procedures at all times.
  • Perform preventative maintenance check on all equipment prior to use.
  • Secure the work area and post proper safety notices prior to beginning work.
  • Ensure floor care equipment and storage areas are kept neat and clean at all times.
  • Return dirty mops and all floor care pads to assigned container daily.
  • Responsible for routine mopping, buffing, and burnishing on hard surface floors.
  • Vacuuming, shampooing, bonneting and extracting carpets, and upholstery.
  • Maintenance of floor care relating to stripping, refinishing, and detailing of cove base.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
  • Replace and re-stock supplies.
  • Always uses appropriate chemicals for cleaning.
  • Uses Universal Precautions at all times.

B. Secondary Duties-Environmental Service Aide

  • General Cleaning (As Assigned)
    • Always uses appropriate chemicals for cleaning
    • Always uses appropriate safely equipment
    • Clean assigned area
    • Performs discharge cleaning of patient rooms by answering page from Supervisor
    • Responsible for vacuuming carpeted areas on the assigned unit
    • Routinely shines all stainless steel surfaces
    • Routinely washes walls and dust vents insuring that walls are not streaked and kept free or blood, stains, and dust
    • Performs other cleaning tasks as assigned
  • General Duties (As Assigned)
    • Ensures EVS Aide cart/closet is kept neat and clean
    • Distribute clean linen as needed
    • Report equipment in need of repair to Supervisor
    • Responsible for operating the Box Bailer unit according to procedure
    • Routinely checks all supplies, paper towels, toilet tissue, soap; stocks as needed
    • Signs in/out daily for required keys/beeper an ensures keys/beeper is returned at end of shift
    • Takes dirty mops/cleaning cloths to department at end of shift
    • Uses universal precautions at all times by wearing gloves, goggles, and washing hands frequently
    • Wears appropriate Surgery uniform
    • Wears appropriate uniform in Central Processing dept
  • Medical Waste and Regular Trash Removal (As Assigned)
    • Disposes of medical waste properly
    • Operate trash compactor as needed
    • Ensures medical waste, trash, and soiled linen is removed from facility often
    • Ensures when transporting trash and medical waste that the carts have a tight fitting lid
    • Makes rounds to patient and department areas to remove trash
    • Remove recyclable items and takes to appropriate collection area
    • Responsible for obtaining medical waste tracking documents
    • Transports chemotherapy or radioactive waste
    • Transports soiled linen
    • Removes and replaces Sharps container to appropriate area

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge

  • Striping, waxing and burnish floors with minimal to no assistance.
  • Operating various pieces of equipment necessary to effectively perform job functions, such as a high-speed buffer, extractor, wet vac, pressure washer, auto scrubber.

Knowledge of equipment and supplies used in cleaning healthcare facilities.

Skills

Effective written and verbal Communication skills.

Abilities

  • Ability to accurately track supplies
  • Ability to read and understand cleaning instructions and information.
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment

Education and Experience:

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

  • Previous environmental service aide experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • 2-years’ experience in operating specialized power equipment as related to waxing, buffing, and burnishing of hard surface floors.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Frequently lifting, pushing, and pulling up to and over 50 lbs as required to operate heavy floor equipment throughout all areas of the hospital and hospital grounds.
  • Frequent bending and twisting.
  • Occasionally working within confined areas and exposure to outdoor elements.
  • Exposure to heavy chemical use.
  • Exposure to patient blood and/or body fluids.
