American Bureau of Shipping is Hiring a Communications Specialist Near Arlington, VA

Job Description
The Communications Specialist will provide support to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). CISA's stakeholder community is diverse across the 16 critical infrastructure sectors. The ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with stakeholders across the agency, government, and private sector is critical to their mission success.
What You Will Do:
  • Compose and edit internal, media, and external executive communications, including writing, designing, and editing external executive communications (PowerPoint presentations, briefs, and talking points), fact sheets, web content, blogs, invitations, agendas, conference reports, and/or Congressional briefings.
  • Prep and brief senior leadership for media interviews, write or provide input to external newsletters and trade publications, prepare statements for the record and background for reporters in response to media inquiries, and research and prepare background on media and trade publications.
  • Develop and publish recurring internal communications such as weekly reports, monthly newsletters, and/or internal webpage.
  • Track and monitor day-to-day official communications including task traffic, deadlines, and questions.
  • Analyze and draft written responses, outreach materials and other related materials in response to requests from leadership and other high-level agency sources.
  • Identify and propose solutions to planning program direction and assist in the determination of the need for written policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the Communication Section's operating instructions to assist with the execution of their goals and objectives.
  • Assist with planning and evaluation of communications strategies within the Division.
  • Gather, analyze, and compose or edit technical materials, such as reports of research findings; technical articles; news releases; standard operating procedures; guidance documents; regulations, or periodicals.
  • Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Draw on a substantial knowledge of DHS programs and activities to develop informational materials. These information materials may be for internal or external dissemination at the national and international levels and may include internal reports and publications; summaries of programs, reports of research findings, and news articles.
  • Organize material according to establish standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
What You Will Need:
Education & Experience
  • 5 years of professional experience, with demonstrated success in strategic communications
  • Bachelors degree, preferably in English, Communications, Advertising, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with both internal/external communications and marketing highly preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Federal government and/or management consulting experience preferred
  • Effective project management skills to create and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Comfortable collaborating within a team and driving forward on individual tasks, with the capability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Cybersecurity, infrastructure protection, and/or risk policy experience in government or private sector desired
  • Current DHS suitability or Secret clearance desired
  • US Citizenship required
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to a manager.
Working Conditions:
Work will normally be performed in an air-conditioned office environment. Work will be non-manual, but the incumbent must be able to walk and climb among equipment and structures. There may be an occasional need to lift up to 10 pounds.
