General Function

The Lead Site Coach (all ages) provides excellent customer service while managing assigned groups within the swim team and assisting with the production of a quality swim team program. The Lead Site Coach creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the YMCA of Volusia Flagler policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

· Perform assigned coaching responsibilities, including practices, recruiting, record keeping and scheduling.

· Lead swimmers through organized and preplanned daily practices to achieve higher levels of technique.

· Design seasonal plans tailored for the various levels of abilities and strengths using the USA Swimming progression plan.

· Provide and communicate monthly evaluations for all swimmers in your group(s).

· Attend any meet sessions and team events as asigned.

· Assist with the coordination and set up of any/all VFYMCA hosted swim meets or team events as needed/assigned.

· Supervise swim meets, including warm-ups, practice , etc., to ensure the safety of the swimmers.

· Follow and promote all facility and team policies and procedures as needed.

· Communicate team announcements, changes, etc. with Family Center staff, members and program parents on a weekly basis.

· Respond to all parental emails within 24 hours.

· Create and develop effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.

· Take a lead role in the evaluation, placement and registration of new and potential VFYMCA swimmers.

· Organize and publish ongoing forms of team communication for all VFYMCA swimming groups to include but not limited to newsletters, social media, bulletin boards, etc.

· Assist in the retention of existing members and engagement of new members by informing them of the Family Center aquatic programs, including lap swimming, Safe Start, swim lessons, other sport teams team and group exercise classes.

· Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.

· Know, understand and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.

· Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the YMCA of Volusia Flagler policies and procedures.

· Attend all staff meetings, monthly in-services and trainings as required.

· Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Volusia Flagler in the Family Center and its programs.

· All other duties assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

To be successful, you must meet education, training and experience requirements, and you must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education, Training and Experience

· High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

· Previous swim coaching experience preferred.

· Previous customer service experience preferred.

· Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

· Current USA Swim Coaching certifications required.

· Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

· Excellent follow through actions regarding communication.

· Desire and ability to work with people of all ages.

· Demonstrated responsibility and dependability.

· Must exhibit patience, sensitivity and understanding.

Working Conditions

· Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.

· Must have the ability to pass a swimming skills test.

· May be required to sit, stand or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time including continuous physical endurance for thirty to sixty minutes of aerobic activity.

· May be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time. May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.

· Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members’ well-being.

· Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
