Description
Position Summary
The Health and Inclusion Supervisor is a member of the Senior Camp Team and is responsible for providing training and mentorship to Day Camp staff on best inclusion practices. The Health and Inclusion Supervisor is responsible for maintaining accurate health records for campers and staff as well as using their previous experience to create, evaluate, and implement behavior plans to ensure all campers have a safe and equitable summer.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
    • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
    • Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Act as a member of the campsenior staffteam both within activities and throughout the camp day to plan, direct, and supervise all camp operations.
    • Address program concerns in a timely manner; effectively communicate changes and concerns with the Program Specialist.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
    • Serve as a role model through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
    • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special programs, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
    • Participate in senior staff meetings and lead daily staff meetings as needed.
    • Assist where needed with camper "check-in" and "check-out".
    • Provide staff support and provide outstanding customer service to families.
    • Plan and coordinate the camp snack menu.
    • Provide camp staff with weekly camper reports to raise awareness of camper needs and accommodations.
  • Provide care to meet the diverse needs of camp staff and campers.
    • Lead daily medication management.
    • Supervise and provide care for both staff and campers seeking medical attention.
    • Provide First Aid coverage as needed.
    • Provide direct care to staff within the scope of their skills, the camp's health care manual, and treatment plan.
    • Facilitate and mentor the inclusion of all campers including those with physical, emotional, behavioral, or developmental disabilities.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state, American Camp Association, and GSGLA standards.
    • Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file.
    • Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications.
    • Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms.
    • Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed.
    • Maintain accurate files for each camper, including health forms, permission slips and child release forms; provide timely statistical and attendance reports on day camp participants.
  • Ensure a staff orientation session is delivered on medical services.
    • Ensure camp staff and campers know their role related to health care and first aid.
  • Screen all campers and staff who arriving and departing camp.
    • Verify health history and examination.
    • Verify emergency authorization.
    • Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases.
    • Conduct a health assessment.
    • Keep all medications used by campers and staff.
  • Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp.
    • Report daily and observe cleanliness of areas throughout camp.
    • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Program Specialist.
  • Other duties as assigned.
GSGLA El Ranchito Day Camp
Tucked away in the charming suburbs of Long Beach, El Ranchito is a tree-lined high adventure day camp, where girls are encouraged to take safe risks that boost bravery and promote goal setting. Exciting, confidence-building outdoor activities include archery, low ropes, and a 32-foot climbing tower.

Qualifications
Qualifications (Minimum Education and Experience)
  • Must be 18 years of age or be a high school graduate by the start of camp.
  • Must be available for 9.5 weeks of day camp and training dates that will be scheduled before camp.
  • Documented experience teaching or interacting with youth programs and are up to date with inclusion best practices.
  • Must submit health history form prior to first day of work.
  • Must be committed to work the entire camp season and attend all pre-camp trainings.
  • Must hold a valid CPR/First Aid Certification by the start of camp. Training will be available.

  • Subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement.

Physical Requirements
  • The incumbent must have the ability to visually monitor and physically assist campers weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • May lift to 50 lbs. periodically. If more, the incumbent must request assistance.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/herself or others.
  • The incumbent must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.
