Position Information

Length of Assignment: May 2024-August 2024

Position Summary

The Camp Experience Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the management of the overall camp operations. Additionally, the coordinator focuses on the day-to-day operations including the creation of program materials, social media postings, and positive camper experiences.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver a fun and safe program that meets the standards laid out in the camp guide.
    • Ensure program schedules are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.
    • Deliver progressive program activities.
    • Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the campers’ abilities and skills in various program activities.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
    • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
    • Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the overall camp operations.
    • Address program concerns in a timely manner; effectively communicate changes and concerns with the Camp Experience Manager.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
    • Serve as a role model through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
    • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special programs, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
    • Participate in staff meetings and lead daily staff meetings as needed.
    • Assist where needed with camper “check-in” and “check-out”.
    • Provide outstanding customer service to families.
  • Develop and implement programs and schedules for all areas of camp program and facilities.
    • Take the lead in the creation of program and activity schedules.
    • Collect and evaluate camper surveys records; report and evaluate camp program and activity areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

GSGLA Mariposa Day Camp

Mariposa is a cozy, park-like property in the foothills of Altadena in the San Gabriel Valley. It includes a large grassy space, a wooded area with water misters, and a campfire ring with an adjacent amphitheater.

Qualifications (Minimum Education and Experience)

  • Must be 18 years of age or be a high school graduate by the start of camp.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp and training dates that will be scheduled before camp.
  • Documented experience teaching or interacting with youth programs.
  • Must submit health history form prior to first day of work.
  • Must be committed to work the entire camp season and attend all pre-camp trainings.
  • Must hold a valid CPR/First Aid Certification by the start of camp. Training will be available.

Physical Requirements

  • May lift to 50 lbs. periodically. If more, the incumbent must request assistance.
  • The incumbent must be able to visually monitor and physically assist campers weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/herself or others.
  • The incumbent must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.
